Rumors of 2.5L turbo and AWD are wants, plus the Sonata is supposed to go away, so the Elantra has to fill the spot of 2 cars

Thoughts....
Wow, Sonata will be gone? Not that that isn't the way things are going, cars going away, Buick is all SUV for a long time, I believe Ford and Chevy all SUV except for Mustang, Corvette, Camaro.

I know you guys are a lot more up on the architecture than I am, but if I'm not mistaken almost all of the AWD sedans are built on the SUV platforms, is that how they are going to be doing it for the Elantra? It seems to me that some of the newer AWD are hybrids that are using the electric at the other end from whatever the ICE drive wheels are.

The current Elantra & K5 have AWD options but I'm not sure their based off the SUV platform, like the Tuscan or Sportage respectively but it's possible

Now adding a hybrid component to a car does add weight and cost but makes more power as well, case in point the current Civic hybrid, more power than an Si and slightly faster IIRC. I mean it's not as fun to drive I'm sure since the Si only comes manual but this hybrid gets 50 mpg, so there's the trade-off, more mpg and power

I'm mostly a GM guy, I just remember that's how GM did a lot of the AWD sedans, and Ford as well. Back when Ford was still making the Taurus, that was a selling point for the police departments, that the Explorer and the Taurus (police versions) were the exact same chassis, so everything was the same between them except for the body difference, so they were identical vehicles for maintenance purposes.

I did not know that (there was an AWD option). According to Wiki, the current Elantra shares a platform with the Kona, and the Kia K4 and Niro.

I've noticed that in some of the Hyundai models, that the hybrid versions have more total horsepower than the ICE-only versions. Interesting selling/marketing point, I also understand that some Toyota models are hybrid-only (at least the Sienna).

Thanks for the info, makes sense about the Kona as it's larger than the previous model. I had one ad a rental, an N-line, and actually liked it, just not sure I'm ready to go into an SUV full time, even an entertaining one like the N-line with AWD. That N-line had the same engine/trans as my previous car (2018 Elantra Sport) and for the most part I could live with it, just not sure right now.

I'm a car guy through and through but at this point in my life I know I'll never be able to obtain a no compromise performance car, new or used, so the EN is about as close as I come, plus it's my DD and drives great, incredible brakes and on a run gets pretty close to 40 mpg, so it does everything, plus it's not that common on the road, people still don't know what it is.

You brought up Toyota and guess what, all Camry's are now hybrids as well and they do it right

Klasse,
Your Hyundai is probably the best looking Hyundai I have ever seen. Yes it is unique and personally Id drive it till it dies.
When one captures a great looking car then that car will look great for all time. Fifteen years from now a great looking vehicle will still look great, style wise as it did when new. A ho-hum vehicle will look dated at that same 15 years.

One draw back of driving a car these days is the vast majority of people are driving SUVs and others are driving pick ups and many mini vans. All those sit higher and therefore their oncoming headlights shine right in one's eyes when driving a car. Not to mention the mismatch in a collision.

200 miles from home this weekend...figures....I have snow to plow for a bunch of. neighbors.
Ill be busy when I get back

Thank you, I truely appreciate that! I know your a muscle car guy and I am too, just can't swing that anymore. A little background for you I once had a 78' Caprice Classic coupe from 1987-1994, I inherited it once my Grandfather passed away in 1987. It was a 305 2 barrel...SLOW️After I graduated high school I put a 350 in it, R.V. cam, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4 barrel and headers...better. Then I had the trans rebuilt, shift kit and "Vega" torque converter added, now it would do smokey burnouts and launched better. As you can see I'm working my way back and finally the rear-end was addressed, Auburn posi and 4.11 gears...quicker! I thought this was quick but I ended up swapping out 2 or 3 intakes and carbs, cam changes followed and the last set up was a Holley 750, Edelbrock Performer RPM and General Kinetics hyd cam (.509/.509-304/304) car scooted pretty good...for a while and at this point I'm bit by the bug...BAD

At this point I'm into street racing and decided to go up the ladder...bigger! Now being a s/b guy I knew about the 400 s/b and I went this route by finding a speed shop I trusted. We ended up going with a built 406, Dart Heads w/2.05/1.60 ss valves, mild porting, 780 Holley, Edelbrock Performer RPM, ceramic coated headers, flat top pistons which gave me about 10:25:1 with the combustion chamber of 67cc, IIRC, Ultradyne cam 507/531-286/304) and 5.7 conrods so I could spin this thing up to almost 7K. The converter was upgraded to 10" unit that flashed at 4000 rpm and 4.88 gears. The suspension was also addressed, V6 coils, removed front sway bar, Koni drag shocks set to 90/10 and even rear drag shocks. My rear tires were M&H race masters (295/60/15) and skinnies upfront, like a 175/75/15 IIRC. I had this car weighed and believe it or not...3600 lbs. I raced it alot from 1991-1993, notable wins against an 89' TTA and real GNX, those guys couldn't believe it, especially with a s/b and no NOS, NOS was very popular at the time.

I had issues with the car and sold it to my boss who was like a 2nd Dad to me, he sorted out the issues that were minor and took it to the drag strip where he let me make a pass...12.38@107 mph

I took a year off and bought an 87' GN, did basic mods that took it to 13.4@101 mph, then bolt ons like turbo, FMIC, injectors, dial-a-chip, 3.5" downpipe into 3" exhaust and got down to 12.6@109 mph w/1.91 60 ft time. At this point the car was tired, approaching 100K, valve springs double wiped out and needed a 10" converter to spin that larger turbo up but that's how it was.

That was it for me and muscle, all new cars after that, nothing close to muscle but some fun cars that were modded a bit like a brand new 2000 Contour SVT, R56 MINI Cooper S and various other cars that weren't special but I always did muffler/intakes on, gotta do "something"

That brings me to 2022 when I bought this EN, it's been modded to and hasn't always been successful but I'm working on the tune still, well not me persay. This car does low 5 second 0-60, low 13's quarter mile and tops out over 150 mph, not by me I assure you but it's been done. Additionally the car is track capable right off the showroom floor and gets close to 40 mpg, 25 in the city with warmer temps, has a pretty big trunk, awesome seats, etc. I still look back it everyday and have tastefully modded the car to "factory aftermarket" specs, or how the factory could've done little things.

Thank you for reading

Duragloss and Z-CS were the top products used here
I was always surprised Duragloss never came out with a WOWA sealant, and that Zaino never came out with a rinseless wash, or a coating, you know, something like an environmental shield ;)

If the Zaino customer base is Corvette owner, well, it's good enough for them. As far as DG, yeah, they stopped too but actually developed a coating, it was the first one I ever used and it was like $50 back then IIRC.

The DG coating kit is called "Enviroshield". Pretty hard to convince me that Z-6 isn't FC&S, Z-8 isn't concentrated AquaWax, Z-1 wasn't 601, that ZFX isn't the active ingredient of 601, that the old lemony Z-6 wasn't 253, that Z-7 isn't a different colored 901, etc.

I still have my Enviroshield kit, I shook the coating bottle a month or two ago and it's still liquid, I had used some of it at the time I got it.

Zaino is DG?
