The Post a Picture of Your Ride as it Sits Thread

My Blue Rocket woken after an 81-day slumber....................

There's one of these parked a couple of streets away from me now, same colour and wheels. It looks in pretty good condition, not compared to yours of course, just given its age.

I couldn't justify buying a sports sedan that's slower than my FJ, and that goes for the Commodore SV6 as well.

I know they'd probably be more fun on a twisty road, but I'm quicker off the line than both base model sports sedans from Ford and Holden, especially when I changed from the AT tyres that came on it, I run wider HT tyres now. Both sedans were known for being under tyres, and it usually gets worse as they get older, most people who own them now probably buy tyres on a budget.

If you'd asked me if the FJ would be good at traffic light drags, I would have said no, but the throttle is instantaneous, even though it's "by wire", it feels like a direct cable linkage. Both my old Commodores with throttle by wire had a delay, it may have only been fractions of a second, but it was there and I could feel it, and I didn't like it.

Hmmm, not sure I agree with that.

FJ Cruiser 0-100 (0-62) in 8.3 seconds, I really like how it sounds too -

FG MK II XR6 0-100 (0-62) in 6.8 seconds. On 98-ron premium, it will be around 6.4 seconds -

I thought I might get your attention. The FJ Cruiser in that test is a 2014, which is slower than the 2011-12, they changed to a 160 litre fuel tank for the later models, mine is only 72 litres. I've also modified the exhaust in mine, they normally have one massive muffler in the middle, I've removed mine and put a much smaller Redback sports muffler in its place. So yes, they do sound good, but mine sounds better, but I'm thinking of going for the muffler delete, so straight pipe it. I also have a K&N air filter, which may or may not help, and I'm running 285 wide tyres. I've timed mine on a GPS performance timer app at 7.8 seconds to 100kmh a couple of times.

Where these traffic light races normally happen is at set of lights on this road near me that's got a limit of 80kmh, it goes from 2 lanes into 1 after about 250 metres, so that's about as far as the race goes, also the HWP patrol there regularly. You know when you're first at the lights and someone comes up next to you in the outside lane that it's on. I had an R52 Pathfinder beat me once, discovered he had a throttle controller in it, and a month later he blew up his CVT, oops. I don't know if it's traction issues, bad driving, or age related power loss, but I've never had a normally aspirated 6 cylinder Falcon or Commodore get past when I don't want them to. Mostly I behave myself, but if the conditions are right, I like to have some fun.

Probably too far, about 8-10 hours, I'm sure he knows some good roads down there, the HWP are way too active up here, it's a known hoon area.

I parked opposite the car wash when I went to the movies today, maybe I was teasing them. When I came back they just finished this Genesis, I don't know if it was an aftermarket wrap or from the factory, but I much prefer a satin finish over the matte. I wouldn't have either though, I love my gloss too much.

My 2008 4Runner with the 4.0 liter V6 must be a lot like your FJ

On paper it’s nothing to brag about but if you punch the throttle at a stop light it will easily spin the tires for as long as you want

It’s box stock and just short of 200,000 miles

It pains me to say this, but sometimes it feels like a big effort to getting one of the fleet out for a drive, especially after a busy week and all I want to do is crash in front of the TV. Parked in front of another car under a cover exaggerates that feel. First world problems and all.

But.................the effort is always worth it.
