First I would like to thank Bimmer325! for allowing me to use his Porter cable. I've been a rotary guy for about 12 years now and this week he allowed me to try out his pc. And after the truck I did today I'm a believer! Normally with this type of oxidation I would've went straight for my rotary but for testing purposes I stuck only to the pc, Power gloss, and Meg's 2.0 Cutting pad. Enjoy!

This did take some time, about 4 hours just on the hood, which is longer then it would've taken with a rotary, but at least now I know that a d/a is capable of some pretty crazy results!

ROCK ON...PERFECTIONS...ROCK ON!!!
It just goes to show if you are willing to do the work...you can get the results you desire. Hec...now you are good enough to do MY Bimmer!!
Impressive

just curious for oxidization do you treat it as normal polishing as wash, clay, polish, and seal? And as you polish it just takes away the oxidization?

The first thing you should know about oxidation is most of the time it doesn't come completely out, and even though this looked amazing there was a couple spots on the vehicle that just wasn't going to come out. As far as treating it, I washed the car, compounded it several times with Menzerna Power Gloss, menzerna powergloss, menzerna S34A, menzerna s34, menzerna compound , the pictures you are seeing except for the final were done with nothing but the power gloss, then polished with Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish, final polish, Meguiars polishes, car polish, 205 FP then sealed with XMT 360 corrects, cleans, and seals auto paint! XMT 360 is more than a cleaner wax, its a swirl remover, polish, and paint sealant in one., but it was the compound that pulled out the oxidation.

This is what I followed to achieve these results.

That is amazing that you could get Power Gloss to finish down like that. After PG I need 2 more steps to get the finish down.

Awesome work! I've done things like that on severely oxidized paint with a PC before. In fact, since 1997 I've never used a rotary on an automobile's paint. Most correction can be done with a PC if you use the right pads, products, and process. Thanks for helping prove it!

Dang since 1997, the only thing I knew about a d/a in 97 was I could spread wax with it, not paint correction. I really need to get with the times!

Keep that up..and I guess I'll be seeing you next to Mike Phillips doing demo's at the next SEMA Show....thanks for explaining the process..it helps alot of people have a better understanding at whats involved.

What did the Pad look like?

Was it still in good shape, despite the cleaning you did to it?

I was using 2 Meguiars Soft Buff™ 2.0 Cutting Pad, Meguiars W7207, 7 inch cutting pad, foam compounding pad, meguiars softbuffs, soft buff 2.0 pad, meguires so that I could do a section, pull the pad, put the other on, do a section, then clean both at the same time then repeat the process. I was using Foam Pad Conditioning Brush cleans and reconditions foam and wool pads on the buffer. remove excess caked wax and polish from buffing pads. with the pads put onto my rotary for cleaning, and they did have signs of use, although I was pressing pretty hard on the pad to clean them. I'll take some pics of them and post in a bit. :)

Here ya go, both were new before I started, they were used on the hood and roof, around 6 hours total.

GREAT JOB!!!!!! I'm thinking about getting PC after seeing these results. I'm very new to detailing and want to start on the right buffer.

the PC is very versatile and every car enthusiast/detailer should own at least one...

I had no idea that could be buffed out of clear. Amazing.

Most of the time it doesn't come out this well, and this is why I educate the customer right up front along with doing a test spot in front of them before we proceed with the job. This one was an exception not the norm, just fyi.

I've heard Mike P say he can do almost everything he wants to paint with a PC, and after this vehicle lets just say I'm a believer! Very easy to use, about a 5 minute learning curve, and watch Mike's video's before you start to learn some of the basic's on technique. It's well built, and after hours of use in a single day I had not a hiccup. For about 95% of my customers I think this would be the only tool I would need, although there were some area's on the vehicle I was wishing I had the flex d/a. But that might of been because of the pads I was using were quite big 7", maybe the 5.5's would've made the difference in those areas.

Thanks, I'm almost convinced into buying a PC. Going read more and watch his videos to get an idea of how it works. I have never used one before, good thing my dad has a beat up minivan I can test on. lol
