The Season of Discontent is upon us...

Is the hydroshot that good?

It won't replace a power washer but it does a good job of getting the loose dirt off of the surface and it is good enough to rinse the soap off of the panel. Two 5 gallon buckets provide enough rinsing water to complete my SUV.

Interesting. My problem is that I normally have heavy mud deposits on my Jeep.

Location Michigan:D

And I live off of a dirt road. It doesn’t help that my winter hobby is cruising the back roads. I’ve come across some pretty gnarly areas that makes me wonder how anyone without 4x4 could make it down the road.

Ann Arbor area, what about you?

It might work on the mud deposits but you would probably go through a couple of batteries and three buckets of water just for the fenders, wheel wells and undercarriage.

Near Coldwater, I have a 2 mile dirt road just to get to the main road.....lol....Michigan....ask Governor 1/2 Whit when she is going to fix the "Dam" roads

Too cold and impractical?? What kind of New Englander says that? I live in Southeastern Mass and my cars get the full treatment all year round. Get yourself some ice fishing gloves for the outdoor washes in the winter. I actually used them yesterday when I did a full two bucket wash. I also use the Worx Hydroshot with buckets filled with warm water during the winter months when the garden hose is frozen.
Keeping that glistening shine on your vehicles all year round is possible. You just have to improvise and adapt.

You've inspired me.

It's a great tool if you have reasonable expectations for what it CAN and CAN NOT do. I use mine to clean tires/wheels/wells when it's cold out and the outside water is turned off. Before I had access to outside water and parking underground I would do a 2BM wash (using a 3rd five gallon bucket for rinse water) Yes it takes longer to rinse but you can still maintain your ride in the winter. I HIGHLY suggest the 40v battery as it gives a little more power and longer work time.

There is a "new and improved" model that uses dual 40v batteries, sounds like a greater tool for sure

I still do rinseless weekly in the winter. I take the vehicles to the spray bay to get the heavy salt off and then to the garage for rinseless. It definitely gets dirtier quicker with all the salt on the roads

Nice week in PA! Of course the weather turns to crap this weekend!!!

Don't forget there are other options as well for cordless pressure washers - SunJoe and Greenworks have ones that have their own bucket and have pretty stout output for battery power. SunJoe lists theirs as 1196psi @ 1GPM, Greenworks just released a new one that's 1800psi @ 1GPM. They're not cheap, but you're buying into the convenience for sure.

I have the previous gen Greenworks that's 800psi, .9GPM, and it's been great for pre-rinsing in the garage before a Rinseless wash (really ironic when you type it out... ). Works perfect for knocking off the grit so you don't have to worry if it's been longer than you'd hoped since your last wash. It actually surprised me that it worked well enough to create foam with my BOSS foam cannon and the Foaming Surface Wash. Not as thick as you'd get off a pressure washer actually rated for what the cannon calls for, but enough that I had a little peace of mind that it was able to dwell on there before rinsing it off. It's also really nice to be able to flush the wheels/wells out also.

I'd plan on toting an extra 5 gallon bucket of water out to the garage (on top of the attached bucket) if you're going to be really spraying something down, but if it's just a quick rinse you can probably make it by on a single fill. Again, if you're using it hard, I'd want to have a back up battery/set of batteries as required so you don't have any down time.

Winter tires/stock rims go on next Saturday, along with WeatherTechs re-installed

You only run weathertechs in the winter?? What do you use for the rest of the year?

The carpeted mats that came with the car. I know it sounds weird but the WeatherTechs are kinda noisy

I'm in NJ - we'll either get hammered with snow and the pre-requisite salt/brine or we'll just get lots of rain. These days I just go to my local touchless place. I go regularly enough that I get discount washes having joined their "Loyalty" club. :)

Maybe in the Spring I'll get a full detail in or I'll just hire the local detailer to get the job done since I tend to be short on time these days.

It's decent IMO. I'll be using it more this winter.

Luckily our winters are becoming warmer over time. The Northeast in particular has seen the largest increase in average winter temps.

My cut off is 50-55F. Below that I don't do anything.
