I normally machine polish my car once every year using my porter cable 7424. On this information could any one advice me on how long my clear coat will last before it gets completely eaten away. I apologise if this topic has already been posted before. Thanks in advance.

It depends on alot of factors.
What type of clear/auto?
What compounds are you using?
What machine and what pads are you using?
How agressive are you meaning speed and pressure?

Once a year is fine unless you're using a rotary and Meg's diamond cut......
I do mine at least 3-4 times a year with a PC and XMT 1 since I keep it maintained all year myself.

think of clearcoat as around as thick as your toenail. Not very, and once its gone your gonna need refinishing. That said, a PC is not going to remove much of it. I have polished cars with a PC 4-5 times a year for many years without breaching the clearcoat.

But it does come down to using the least abrasive polish and pad and only moving to more abrasive as needed. For example, a good finish should never need to see a compound but a nice finishing polish my amp up the finish to the next level.

Thanks people for the information. Just for information I'm driving a 06 BMW 325i Saphire Black, I use a PC 7424 with D.A. lake country polishing pads and Klasse polish and sealant.
