For now, I have a 8500x50.

I've been thinking about making a switch to a V1 for awhile, but I think it's now the time.

For those who have V1s, how do you like them? I've heard they go crazy in the city...is this true or is it not that bad?

As well, doesn't the V1 have traffic drone monitoring now? Ohio has them all over the place, and it's getting to the point where the detector is becoming useless. This is all included in the new version too, correct?

I'm thinking of getting rid of the 8500x50 and pulling the trigger soon. I think I can fetch the 8500x50 for around $200, since it is upgraded, serviced and everything. With that being said, I can get a V1 for about $200 or even get a refurb unit from them directly for alittle cheaper. I wanted to go the used market, but with so many versions out there...I figure going the expensive route is the correct way this time.

Any other information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any detector is completely useless against laser except the ones with shifters because the shifters actually deflect and mess up the speeds which is 100% illegal in any state no matter where you live. Therefore once you are pegged, you're done it doesn't matter. Shifters also don't always work depending on where they hit you at with the laser.

I have had a Valentine 1 Radar Detector for about 7 or 8 years now. I absolutely love it. Hands down the best detector on the market. If you turn it to advanced logic on the radar detector it isn't that bad in the city. Like any radar it will have some false readings. The best part about the V1 is the sensitivity is insane. You will have warning long before a trap. Great for when traffic is slow and the cop only takes readings every so often. Also the arrows are invaluable. Once you pass a cop or false reading you will know it because the arrow will show behind you and you can speed again.

I would recommend waiting a month before speeding so you know how it works.

I also have a concealed kit which is great so when the cop pulls you over chances of him seeing it are slim unless they know what they are looking for.

A good addition would a lasar active jammer. The V1 and any detector will only read laser when it hits you which is too late. Sometimes if you are a long ways away you can slow down fast and get lucky. Laser takes a couple readings and long range is slow. But if you are close you will get F-ed every time.

Remember, a cop can keep the radar off and turn it on when you speed by which a radar isn't gonna help. There are other situations as well.

But the times I have gotten a ticket in the past 7-8 years are when I was driving without the V1.

Keep the radar on top middle and keep wires hiden

The concealed display placed near instruments for easy reading

Chances of the cop seeing the radar??? VERY SLIM. Especially since they look at you the whole time

And yes, my truck is in bad shape and desperately needs a detail

I have had the Valentine 1 for many years. It is the most effective detector I have used (and I have tried most of the major ones beginning with Radio Shack in 1974). Not that I'm saying that RS was ever a major player in the radar detector market just the first I heard of back then. Once Cincinnati Microwave started making devices, there was no contest IMO.

V1 is hands down the best radar detector I've ever seen or used.

Still thinking if I want a LIDAR jammer or not. I realize that LIDAR warnings cannot help guys, I've been using my 8500 for the past 4 years.

I'm still considering if I want a Redline or a V1, Right now I have my 8500 hardwired next to my mirror, since the car sits so low and the roof line is weird, I don't think a cop would ever see it.

No offense but isn't it cheaper and easier to just not speed? If the feeling arises just go to a local track on a test and tune day and get all your willies off there, when you get back on the roads just abide by the laws.

Not trying to thread jack or put anyone down but I just do not understand why you need something to help you detect when a police officer is trying to maintain safety on the streets by minimizing dangerous driving habits.

Driving fast is a rush and absolutely necessary.

Tracks cost money also.

It cost me $5 for unlimited runs on 1 night. Just saying. And when you get somebody hurt from doing something stupid, your life in prison cost a lot more than not speeding.

Tickets cost more and so do court fees and impound fees. Oh and do not forget about vehicular homicide if the "necessary rush" arises and you lose control of your vehicle.

I'm sorry, its not necessary at all. I loath people that speed, sorry.

And you stated that were you can't edit or delete. Anyone that gets in an accident with you and wants to sue...there it is.

I never said I do 100+ on the highway do I?

Sorry, but I never saw the reason with going 60 on the dot, and watching semi's blow past me. With that being said, I keep the flow of traffic. Does that mean I go 80? Sometimes yes, but I have a general rule of thumb, 10 over on highway during day, 5 at night. 35 MPH zones I go 40.

Call me crazy, but that's the way I drive. I've been ticket free, clean record so I'm sure I'm doing something right there.

Too add onto your next point, you can see below:

And a video if you actually care:

With that being said, this year I went autocrossing 8 times. I've done my fair share of pushing the limits, I know where and when to do it.

Next year I'm going to be taking the car on the track. Autocrossing alone I spent close to $300 last year alone, not to mention the $1k in dedicated tires I just bought. Track days will be costing me $200-$400 a weekend. In addition I have already signed up for the ///M performance driving school in SC next year. It's the price I pay to have fun.

I'm not trying to brag, just proving a point. I realize that this car is fast. Yes, I love it. Yes, I could rip it from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, but it's only when I'm having my fun, as above.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I hope you realize though that this thread isn't about me escaping the cops, how to do triple digits and not get caught. Next time I hope you get to know the OP before trying to teach someone a lesson.

Hypocrisy is awesome. Get to know me before you teach me a lesson. :nomore:

OP I am sorry if I offended in any way, my second comment was actually directed to the comment of someone else and was not intended toward you at all.

I am glad to see that you autocross your vehicle and enjoy it responsibly.

I am not sure where the animosity is coming from but I assure you I did not mean any harm by my comments. I was just making a point by saying that instead of worrying of foiling the cops or buying expensive gadgetry to keep up with traffic who is in the wrong, just go the correct speed.

One thing I will add, which will probably make you upset but I think it needs to be mentioned. The moment you become too cavalier behind the wheel and think you are such an awesome driver because of all the classes and certifications you have under your belt, your going to make a careless mistake. I do not wish that upon you at all but please make sure you are driving responsibly for everyone else's sake on the road.

Anyone other stupid lectures???

You don't even know how fast I drive, so how can you make ridiculous assumptions?

Your absolutely right, how dare I imply such wild accusations, you probably never go any faster then what the posted speed limit is.

If you guys think its cool to beat the system or drive faster then what you are supposed to, that is your business. Just make sure you are not endangering the lives of my family or friends. And do not forget, there are people out there who feel they can drive however they please and even drink and drive as they please around your family and friends as well.

Its easy to be confident about our own accolades and proficiencies but do not forget if you do not care, why should you expect anyone else to?

I got off onto a little rant, my apologies as well.

You can say what you want to say, but I will never come to that point where "Because I took a performance driving school" it's okay to bring it out on the street. I know you just can't assume that with me.

There is a reason why I do this stuff, to never bring it onto the street.

To sum it up:

Doesn't matter how fast or how slow; I'm not in the habit of shelling out money for easy tax collection and will do 100% everything I can to not get tagged. I have some pretty strong feelings regarding what the cops should and shouldn't be focusing on, which I won't go into here.

Another absolutely ridiculous comment.

Can I please get another?

Last time I checked - you cannot tell if someone is be sarcastic online. So when I make the comment that speeding is a rush and absolutely necessary - some people take it seriously and make assumptions.

Just because I have a radar detector doesn't mean I drive out of control. You have no clue how I drive. You act like I have a High Performance race car and I am being reckless all the time.

Driving 5mph or 10mph in certain situations is out of control? Really... Who are you to judge that? Do you even know where I drive and what situations I might drive 10 mph?

I have 150hp 4cyl Tacoma with 33 inch tires that I use for a daily driver and 4 wheeling.

But I guess I am out of control, drunk driver (who doesn't drink) that is going to kill you and your family and spend the rest of life in prison.... all because I have a radar detector.

LMAO.... so thanks for being all high and mighty and attacking me. I really appreciate it.

That is all I need to hear and I am glad to see you feel that way, I am sorry about your loss. I too have had friends in serious accidents because of excessive speed and dangerous acts on the road.

I will apologize again if I misunderstood your comment about the driving classes and your auto-crossing. I must have taken it the wrong way as I perceived it as you were saying it was o.k. for you to speed because you knew how to properly drive your car at higher speeds. I see now that was not your intent.

Im done butchering your thread now. I apologize for taking it off track.
