Thinking about taking the plunge into buying a polisher. I have never used one. I do not know which one to buy. The Rupes really peaks my interest but have no real knowledge of their different uses or capabilities. I am not planning on detailing professionally. Just sort of obsessed with this stuff.

Help...Help....Help

Perhaps others with more experience will disagree, but here's my take on things.

I have the 6 inch Griot's Garage DA polisher, and I think it works just fine for my hobby lifestyle. It has a lifetime warranty, and Griot's Garage customer service is great. You can purchase other (smaller) backing plates, so you have some versatility as well.

I have no experience with the PC or the Meguiars DA polishers, but I am sure they are just fine. People swear by the Porter Cable; it's probably the most popular.

If I were starting a business, I would buy the Flex or the Rupes.

If I were to do things over, I would buy the Rupes...not because I particularly need it, rather because I like it!

If you're just starting get the gg6. Lifetime warranty and you have the versatility of using any size backing plate and pad combo so you can get every area. I love my rupes but a 6in pad isn't gonna cut it for an A pillar or something lol.

I was in the same place that you find yourself. I was really nervous about it because I can tear up anything and had never even seen a polisher. So I read all I could on this site and Mike Phillips' book. These guys are such a help. End result- got a polisher and really like it. Even I can't hurt the paint with it and it makes the job so much easier and better results too. Take the plunge.
