Thinking about trading in the CR-Z for a Fiat 500 Abarth, thoughts?

The old 124's are really cool but those Alfa Spyders

It's pretty interesting, here in Toronto it seems like the fiats have replaced the mini Cooper here bit by bit, especially in the well to do neighborhoods. A few years ago I saw a ton of minis but now it's all fiats basically, along with their new suv.

I see way more Fiats by me than Minis now.... the 1st Gen crowd have gotten rid of theirs due to age/maintenance and I find the 2nd and 3rd Gen Minis just aren't the same and don't attract those owners. The new ones aren't attracting a lot of new owners simply because the price point is ridiculous.

Fiats are way more reasonable to buy and still have a small car size. I'm not surprised this is the case.

My prediction is that Mini pulls out of the US market within 5 years.

That is a bold call Monica, I see way more MINI's around here, stay "tuned"

It is bold, but I'm standing behind it. I've seen less and less new Minis on the road. Mostly I see older ones if any. The newest generation is just terrible... it's big, not so good-looking and overpriced. The problem is for the price of a well-equipped Mini you can buy a base model BMW.

I agree with your entire statement!

My 2006 stickers at $26K loaded.
For the same Mini now it would be $35-$40K. And that's not even a JCW!

My 07' was $27.5K

Actually here a lot of the bmw dealers that were forced to Dale minis as well to stay a bmw dealership are suing bmw because bmw told them that they had to have the minis and that the minis were going to sell. Well.. Most of the dealerships have gotten rid of the mini section now.

Here BMW forced the dealerships to split... so if a BMW dealer wanted to keep the Mini brand they had to build a whole new dealership.

The place I got my MINI from back in 07' was connected to the BMW dealership and now they have a stand alone place that used to be a Saturn dealership.

Same with where I got mine.

I'm going to knock on wood right now, my Abarth has been much more reliable than my MINI was, plain and simple. It hasn't been like my Hondas but what is though.

I'm having the gearbox fluid changed out in the winter, along with the coolant and probably the serp belt changed out. I say the winter because my current oil was done a week before the Dragon and when it's time it's going to the dealership because it's too cold to take it to my buddy Hectours, so while it's up in the air, change out some more fluids as it will have close to 55K on the clock. I don't trust coolant to last 100K and gearbox fluid being changed out is cheap insurance...kinda cheap.

Good idea Roger. I'd do the same thing.... or rather, I will do the same thing :)

How strict is the maintenance on the RS? I ask because my buddy Hectour had an EVO VIII and it was crazy. Trans, diffs and transfer case every 30K and if you go with OEM plugs every 10K there. Then there's the brakes and fluid.
