Hi guys, right now i own a 2004 Nissan Maxima, and i think the car size is huge so i want to change to a smaller size car . i am thinking to buy a 2006 Audi A3 3.2 S-line, because one of my friend is leaving Canada very soon, and he is selling his Audi a3. He will sell it to me below average price( really really cheap). Anyone knows anything about Audi A3. Any problem with that car? Will it be expensive to repair for European car?Feed back please

Yes, expensive for major parts, but if you're getting such a good price, go for it - if you're fairly sure it is not going to need some major repairs. Very nice cars.

It will be a beautiful car to drive. To own.... well yes servicing and parts will be expensive. Another thing to consider is a lot of modern Euro cars develop electrical faults once they get old (say 10 years or more), worse than with Japanese cars (and being Euro cost more to fix these).

I'm not sure how long you're planning on keeping the car for, but if you were only planning to keep for a few years then it would be a great buy, especially if it's below average price.

They a great car, I really like the S line from Audi so I'd say go for it, just make sure you post some pics when you get it (and detail it :dblthumb2:).

The audi a3 is white( which i really love it). I have a little concern about Audi, because my gf used to own a 2002 Jetta, but her gear box jam which cost her 5000$ to fixed it and the engine light always came on. The only knowledge i know about VW and Audi are the same company. I am afraid that there will be gear box problem with the a3 again. I will bring the car to the shop and check it maybe next week. Hope everything is alright.

Yea, this is the problem with VW Audi group cars, but more with VW's than Audi's.

At work, the saying is "you're driving a car and it's running like shi7, look down and "oh, it's an old VW"

How long do you plan on keeping the car for?

Oh, and the A3 looks stunning in white, I think this car will be very hard to resist :dblthumb2:

Good post ^

One thing to check is has the transmission been serviced recently as I know that if it's a DSG transmission (most likely it is) the fluid has to be changed every 60,000 miles (or KM, I can't remember which) as it operates a wet clutch system which puts much more strain and wear on the transmission fluid.

do not buy an Audi. You will be sorry. Poor reliablity. Check reviews.

One writer said- great looking car but the part fall off as soon as you drive it out of the dealership. Check consumers used car recommendation.

I know that some people will say that they never had trouble, that may be true but why risk it.

Don't buy it!!!!! It's a POC!!! Save yourself the heartache...With that said, send your friend to me I will gladly take it off his hands...lol...Seriously, if you know the car and know that it has had no major issues go for it, it's a nice looking ride!!:dblthumb2:

I just looked at consumer reports . they have that car as a vehicle to avoid . and is worst than average. seems that 06 was the first year this model came out? FYI

I've had two Audi's and they are the reason that I've sworn off German cars. Primarily little problems on each, but very expensive to repair.

I would suggest that if you buy the A3, factor into the cost of your deal the price of a good extended warranty. And on Audi's, it's not going to be cheap.

I had an 04' Audi A8L, No Issues whats so ever an that was the first run for that Model "D3"..
I would defintley inquire what Maintenece has been done for its mileage, add up what hasnt been done an what would come up in the time you will be owning the car.
Have you or could you do your own maintence Oil changes, just basic things which will save you a good deal of money.
Just Like this forum, there are plenty of Audi forums where you can get a step by step on how to do the maintenance.

The A3 is a great looking Especially in White, Plus you get Quattro Drive which is I believe the better out of any 4 wheel drive.

Good luck, Hope it works out.. Post PICS!!

This morning, I drove my friend Audi to test the car, i found out the handling of the steering wheel was awesome :), but when we got to the highway, the transmission is kind of weird. The transmission didn`t respond quickly, and every time when it shift from gear 4 to gear 5, there was a little jam( which felt like you hitting the brake between that time). Moreover, i cannot feel the A3 3.2 power(250bhp), it only feel like i am driving a Honda civic. Therefore, i brought my friend Audi a3 to the shop and checked the car. Hopefully there will be a result tomorrow morning. If it cost so much( over 4000 dollars) for repairing that kind of issue, i won`t buy that car for sure. The car is without warranty, and it is around 85000km.

The First issue would be What most call the lag of having Drive by Wire which is explained here. Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Any Audi owner will agree with what your experiencing.

A far as what the gear change between 4th and 5th that sounds a bit more serious.
