Ok, I'm probably the old guy here with osteoarthritis. I've been at detailing for over 50 years. I found what works for me is every morning before I do any work I head to the gym. Half hour on the treadmill, then half hour of weights, 100 squats, 150 sit-ups and finish with a 15 minute sprint on the bike. I have a light breakfast and a protein shake before I head to the garage. Honestly, after years of struggling with pain, this routine has restored my body.
I do take supplements like Glucosamine/Chondroitin, Omega 3, and a multiple vitamin too (GNC Vitapak). Today at 69, I weigh the same as I did when I was a teenager. I have the same 30" waist and actually am in better physical condition than I was back then. I can detail all day without breaking a sweat.
For me, daily exercise has been the most effective treatment. Developing and strengthening muscle mass relieves much of the strain your joints normally have to deal with.
I needed to develop the mental discipline to work out daily, after that the rest was a piece of cake. My wife pointed out to me that I was taking way better care of the cars I was detailing than I was of myself. She was right.
Check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program and get your life back.
