Hi,

I am driving a deep blue metallic '99 Porsche Boxster. The paint is in good shape, considering it's age, but has some light swirls/spider webs you would expect on an older dark color car. I am new to DIY detailing, so I am not looking to spend a huge amount out of the gate, or do anything too aggressive with cutting and compounds right away. I realize I probably won't get rid of every imperfection, but I think I can probably do a better quality job myself for a lot less than a local detailer.

I would appreciate any opinions on what I was looking to purchase to get started:

Optimum Car Wash
Chenille Wash Mitt
2 Buckets w/ Grit Guards
Waffle Guzzler Drying Towel

Clay Bar
Polishing Pal
Menzerna Super Finish 3500 w/ White Pad
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant w/ Red Pad
Supreme 530 to buff
Blackfire Pad Cleaner

Once I get a feel for doing this myself, I am thinking I will step up to a buffer, with the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and Glaze.

Any input, and thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!

You wont be able to accomplish much without a buffer.

Go with a kit like this and it will be money much better spent:

Wolfgang Porter Cable 7424xp Ultimate Polishing Kit

It has basically everything you need to restore the paint on your car to near show car like condition. You will be amazed with the results you can get. Trying to do any paint correction by hand is an effort in futility. Somewhere Mike has a video about trying to remove defects by hand.

unless you look like

You won't get much done without a machine.

Agreed! Research polisher threads, safe and superior results.

Thank you for the replies, I will look into getting a buffer.
