So I've got some rock chips that I'm going to be touching up with dr colorchip when it arrives in the mail. Since I'll be stripping the wax before I do apply it, it would be nice to get a much needed compounding in shortly thereafter.

What's the protocol with using a compound over areas that have been touched of with dr colorchip? I'm going to be using meguiars UC by hand with a terry cloth applicator. I assume there should be some wait time, but how much? And would there need to be additional wait time before waxing over the touched up areas?

An hour or two and you can go right over it no problem at all.

Would have never guessed. I was thinking I was going to have to wait at least a week or so.

In my experience, you're better off to do the correction work first and then apply the touch up paint.

It's personal preference but in my article here,

How to use the Dr. ColorChip Paint Chip Repair Systems

In the first post here's what I wrote,

Probably the most common question I get about doing rock chip repair goes like this,

My car has rock chips and there's also swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation in the paint. Should I polish the paint before using the Dr. ColorChip Rock Chip Repair Kit or after I fix the rock chips?

The answer is, for most people you'll be better off to polish the paint first. By polishing the paint first you'll already be starting with a clean, polished finish and you might even locate rock chips you were not previously aware off.

I checked with Bill over at Dr. Color Chip and he says that's their normal recommendation too.

This would be especially true for paint that needs HARD compounding as you risk heating the panel up and thus heating the touch-up paint up and yanking it out of the rock chip like any touch-up paint.

If the paint only needs light polishing then you can polish after the repair just give it plenty of time to dry and harden.
