Tint installer scratched my steering wheel. What should I do

Here's some SOUND advice from someone who works in the dealer world, MERCEDES...when you buy a car or lease or that matter...have the dealership set-up the tinting because they should have a shop they use regularly and that shop works on their cars a lot...so they know what to watch for and if there are any issues it will be handled IMMEDIATLY because there is no chance of YOU doing it, it happened prior to you taking delivery and go over the car like your life depended on it.

Going through the dealer for tint is a great way to pay nearly double what tinting costs. Tint shop makes their money, and dealer takes their cut for doing... nothing really.

Laughed at the dealer finance man when he tried to tell me it would be $500 to tint my car. ONLY $8 a month more, or something like that.

I will never forget the time I was cleaning a windshield on a brandnew sl 500 at the dealership, and was wearing a watch and scratched the glass big time on the inside of the glass.one other time I thought I had sucked up a razor blade, went to vac seat on a 430 clk and ripped it like butter.2 major mistakes I will never forget.

I've always made them throw it in for free if it was already on the car.

Funny you posted this. I had my windows tinted last summer and found/felt a simliar nearly the same type of mark the backside of my steering wheel too! Fortunately it's at the 12 o'clock position which I never use. However I will occasionally feel it as I turn and let the wheel glide across my hand. I thought maybe it was something I did. Now you have me wondering if it was the tint shop and that I just never noticed.

Leather wheels in new cars are not how they used to be..

Had a similar thing happen to my Genesis but the dealer replaced it under warranty.

I would go back and tell them.

No, dealership won't say anything about the scratch. They will about the tints though..unless u decide to lease another car from them once your current one is up.

Tints are aloud for vw leases.

Leather covered under warranty? Seriously? Hmmmm

Takes one hr to remove tint and glue if it were to be a promblem.I would override your salesperson and service director, and call home office warranty division and have them look at it.But sound furious and stern with these people.I had a Lexus GS 300 brandnew,I lost my temper and punched the steering wheel cover where the air bag is .They covered it no promblem and had a big crack in it.

I leased a new ml merc from chase bank, there allowing 1500 dollars toward wear and tear at the end of lease, anything over I'm responsible.
Ah. Makes sense now. I leased through VW Financial.

I have an exterior detail scheduled this Saturday. My car needs some paint correction due to some dealer installed scratches. Should I get detail first them ppf or the other way around so detailer can lay wax on top of ppf

Paint correction first...then the PPF.

They didn't go away as they are like yours but maybe not as bad, scratches in the leather. However, I've treated my Napa interior with Optimum Leather Protectant Plus. IMO it's by far the very best. Absolutely no sheen or change in appearance but it really feels great and helps condition the leather.

I don't notice the marks at all anymore. Again, partly becuase I'm an SCCA Auto X driver and practice proper hand position. :xyxthumbs:

Hit is with 3000 a couple times. By the time your lease is up it will be worn from wear.

Take the paint film, the front of the car is going to take way more damage than that wheel. Besides in a few years, you will have worn that wheel down to where the issue won't be noticeable.

Life is to short to sweat the small promblems in life.

The tint guy was such a nice guy and handled it professionally. I think he went above and beyond what most shops would have done so I let I let him decide. He chose to do the PPF, since it'll be in house. We agreed to do the PPF on the bumper, partial hood, partial fenders, mirrors caps, and top of rear bumper. I'm thinking maybe the mirror caps aren't really prone to damage (and easily replaceable) so I'll ask him to put the material toward the rear bumper since I parallel park in the city often. Or maybe do the whole hood. If it'll cost extra I'll pay for it. Since it's a "freebie" I thought it might be under the table so there's no warranty. But he said that it will include the 7 Year warranty on the Llumar film as well.

Made the appointment for Saturday after I get my car detailed.

Will update when it gets done.

Thanks all for our input!
