I've been using Meg's Ultimate Quik Detailer and I've noticed that it occasionally sprays tiny white flakes that have the consistency of wet paper if I rub them between my fingers. No matter how much I rub them, the flakes don't melt in the clear detailer solution. Also, a runny white substance sometimes appears in the solution even though (or because) I shake the bottle vigorously beforehand.

Sure enough, my car was speckled with numerous white flakes since I used the detailer as a lubricant for my clay sponge. I gave up on claying the majority of the car since I kept having to wipe away the flakes using my microfiber towel and potentially marring the paint.

My question is whether Meg's Ultimate Quik Detailer is supposed to be completely clear or whether it's sometimes a runny white. Also, what do I make of these white flakes? Does something in the solution harden if this product sits on a shelf for a long time? Did I just buy a defective bottle of solution?

ive used it plenty of times and it was never like that. i would either return it where you got it for another bottle, and check that, and if that other one still has it, contact meguiars and see if you can have them send you a replacement for the defective one.

it should be a pretty much clear liquid(not white at all or runny white), wipe on easy and come out very clear. its a good OTC detailer.

I never had an issue with it. Call Meguiar's customer service. They will take care if you. Also UQD is not recommended to be used as clay lube because of the polymers in it can be to slick for the clay to remove contaminants. That's paraphrasing from Mr. Stoops from Meguiar's Online.

You may want to start keeping it inside. The temperature extremes can wreak havoc with detailing products.

Correctamundo...Stoops suggests the older version in the Red bottle, also available OTC

Thank you everyone for the info and advice. I misplaced the receipt and I bought the detailer using cash, but I went back to AutoZone and they were kind enough to issue me a gift card.

Just to prove the product was defective, I insisted that one of the employees should test it outside. I warned the employee about spraying it on his car, but he said to not worry since it's a hunk of junk. We both cringed as numerous flakes spread all over his hood.

I picked up Meg's Mist & Wipe Quik Detailer (the red bottle), which is cheaper than the Ultimate by $2.50 as well as being a massive 32 oz bottle. When I left the store, I immediately sprayed it on the ground and it didn't produce any flakes or visible residue. Thanks again for the clay lube recommendation. :xyxthumbs:

This has happened to me with a different detail spray that was left in a garage that was not insulated. During the summer it got extremely hot and then in the winter was very cold it then separated and had the same thing you mentioned.
