Tip: Frequent car care equals fast and easy car care...

If the heat shield on the stacks were dirty and in need of polish, how and what tools would you suggest to use? The grating would tear the pads up when used on a machine and I know you can always do it by hand, but I just wondering what the quickest method would be.

Mike, Rog down here in SA Texas...great post..people/customers don't understand or believe that if you wash regularly..all you would need to do is a waterless wash and/or Quick Detail Spray. Makes life easy. Take care and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all at Autogeek.

Great write up Mike as always. :props:

I have bought an 2010 tsx and it is parked outside 24/7. I wanted to know if I take good care of it, meaning washing car once a week and keeping sealant and wax on it. Will my car look good 5,6,7,8+ years from now being parked outside all the time?

That truck is huge. How do you reach the tops of the doors and the roof? I can't even reach the roof of my tundra 

For the tops of the fenders I used a 3-step step stool, sometimes you'll see it in my pictures in the studio because I use it all the time. Anytime you see a picture that looks like it was taken up high, that's because I'm standing on the same step stool, in fact here's my son standing on it while taking pictures of a recent detailing class here at Autogeek.

We have a couple of different types of tools around to get up to the roof...

Mike,

How many towels did you go through while using the DP waterless wash?

That truck is awesome.

I used 6 for the sides of the exterior paint and then used the cleanest of them for the inside of the fender wells. I used 1 for the hood and then after it became wet with product I used it to scrub the windshield, which had Tree Pitch on it that I scraped off with my fingernail and then used the microfiber to scrub off the pitch smears and a second clean dry microfiber to the final wipe and I used two on the roof, basically one on each side and then I jumped into the back of the bed and got the back window with the microfiber towel used for the final wipe off.

The towel I used to scrub off the tree pitch I threw away because I don't believe the pitch will completely wash off the towel and I didn't want to get it mixed up into the towels that will be laundered and re-used. I checked with Dave and he said at home he parks the truck under a Pine Tree. Their wasn't much pitch on the paint, a few little spots but it chipped off easily with my fingernail, the glass was a different story, it was as thought the pitch had become one with the glass.

Ummm guys I said gallons per mile.:D

LOL missed that one...

Dave said he's checked the mileage one time and got between 7 and 8 miles per gallon. He figures it weighs around 13 and 14 thousand pounds.

Yes except for sun damage. No matter what you do the sun is always going to be a factor, keeping the exterior surfaces clean and protected can only help...

Technology allows the addition of UV inhibitors to be used in some car care products, for example waxes and paint sealants, vinyl, rubber and leather protection products.

When it comes to the paint, the best approach is to take care of the clear layer of paint that contains the UV inhibitors and trust in them to protect the basecoat. Any additional protection afforded by a wax or paint sealant is frosting on the cake.

So yes, washing frequently to prevent dirt and other contaminants from building up on the surface where they can attract moisture and the resulting mix can act to deteriorate the paint over time will definitely help to preserve the paint over the service life of the vehicle as well as the regular use of some type of wax or sealant.

:)
