Tips for a Black 2012 Porsche Boxster

My friend came by last night with her car and I could see tons of swirls and straightline scratches in the clearcoat in the moonlight so I asked if I could detail her car sometime soon and she agreed.

This will be an awesome SIV for me and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips regarding how soft the paint was, etc. before I got started on it next weekend...

I picked next weekend because I figured I should probably do my girlfriend's Jeep first to avoid any random jealousy issues about giving her friend a handjob first... :-D

Porsche black is notorious for being very soft. To give you an idea - when I did a black 911 turbo, I was seeing DA haze/micro marring from M205 (a moderate to finishing polish) on a Black Finishing pad. This would typically be considered a very non-aggressive combo.

^Upon closer inspection, you can see there is a haze to the paint - typical DA micro marring

^At the time I did not have a finer polish than M205, so I used CG Black Light as my finishing polish since it can be considered an AIO type product when used with certain pads. You can see it finished down much nicer and clearer.
The car was amazing afterwards.

Immediately after this client left, I ordered some Menzerna SF4500 and some LC Crimson pads. The combo finishes down finer than anything else I have used and would think it would work great for you on this very soft paint. So be prepared to do a 2-3 step process on that paint depending on how bad the defects are because it will be difficult to finish down perfectly, especially if you need to use a compound initially.

M205 hazed soft paint? Interesting. A finer polish than M205 would be Ultimate Polish.

Just goes to show not all paint systems respond the same, and will vary from car to car. This is why its always a good idea to have different types of Polishes on hand (smat & dat). If you would look at my detail arsenal, I have more polishes than LSP's.

Im pretty sure Ultimate Polish would clear that haze up. I cant imagine Porche paint being softer than Honda paint, but realistically you have to work with the paint thats infront of you.

As for pads, I haven't gotten a machine yet so it's gonna be a hand job, lol...

You can use Ultimate Polish by hand. For those interested in a "finer" polish than M205, UP delivers.

As a matter of fact my father-in-law uses Ultimate Polish to remove light swirls on his Porche Cayman S with 0 issues, but hes using Swissvax on that baby as his LSP of choice.
