Tips for using the Flex 3401

The bigger pads are harder to control. Get the LC changeble backing system and buy some of their 5 inch hybrid pads. It will completely change the feel of the machine to you.

Mostly I trigger lock and hold the machine on the middle black portion. Right after the spinning wheel.
 
I had the same problem when I first starting using the Flez 3401. Like everything in life practice is the key. Although switching to a smaller backing plate will give you better control, mastering the machine with the larger pads will prove more cost effective. I use a Rupes 15 for the smaller hard to reach areas and use the flex for the big parts. You could always use your porter cable for the tight areas. Don't give up on the big pads just yet. If the buffer is hard to control switch the speed down to a speed you feel conpfortable. Hang in there it took me a couple cars but once you figure it out you will be happy.
