This is pretty much a copy/paste from Autopia... but I figured it'd be good to get some responses from over here too. Anyways,

I've done quite a bit of reading about what causes the tires to brown, and all sorts of things of that nature. So here's an interesting question I pose to you guys.

I've switched to water based dressings on my tires, specifically 4Star tire dressing. As we all know, it's water based so when it rains (typically the day after i wash my car), it's gone almost immediately. It tends to leave enough behind to not allow much browning.

So here's the strangeness. I washed the car yesterday, and cleaned the tires with my tire brush and some car soap (Meguiar's Gold Class). Hosed them down and went off to finish other parts of the car while they dried enough to use tire stuff on them. When I came back to them, they were hugely brown. The car didn't move or roll or anything like that which is typically associated with causing browning. I thought it was rather strange, and applied my tire stuff with no issues.

So the question is, what happened, why, and is it normal? I thought it might be dirt and stuff from the brush getting on them, but it was pretty even for that, and I clean my brush against the grit guard to try to get as much nastiness off it as possible. So what do you guys think?

from what ive read over the years tires have a built in uv protectant. and when they turn brown its just the uv protectants pushing out ..i forget the name they call it .but bascicly you really dont even need to dress your tires . the have protectants built in them . but of course we do dress them as do i ..but allways use water basedproducts. and use amazing roll of from/ a/g that seems to work well cleaning the tires. wope this helps...

I believe its called BLOOMING ... and indeed try to stick to water based dressings over silicones as possible.

Blooming is supposed to happen from the rotation of the tires. And not in a matter of a few minutes. That's the part that has me confused.

try a {blomming onion} from Outback Steak house.. you ll forget all about your brown tires!!!!:hungry:
