Tire cleaner - needed?

I am looking at the little info book you can get free from autogeek about the wolfgang line and it says"The gel wheel cleaner measures at a PH of 12.5(superior cleaning muscle)but without severe chemicals,it's as gentle as water." I called and ask about the DP and was told it was the same(That was close to two years ago)but if you want this little wolfgang book I can mail it to you.

I believe you, I just wanted to know your source. I am truly shocked that it has such a high PH. I would have thought that it was more it the 7-9 range. 12.5 way up there, hummm. I wouldn't use something like that on my tires.

HiTemp Tire Cleaner will solve all your problems. 3:1, Dependent, Safe, & Cheap. Probably one of the best on the market.

EDIT: Thanks Mods, sorry for the link.

I just tested ARO and I think it went off the scale(higher than 11). I dont think i will be using this product any more until i do more research and make 100% sure that its safe to use caustic chemicals on rubber or clear coat..

Tyre Cleaner:
For any type of protect ant to work well on rubber first remove any brake dust, road tar, grease and grime, wax and dead rubber from the surface to properly clean it. Use a tyre cleaner (pH 9.0) (Menzerna Wheel Surface and Tire Cleaner pH 7.5 or 3M Tire and Wheel Cleaner-39036) that will quickly and safely clean wheels and tires in one easy step, leaving tyres and wheel surfaces with a brilliant shine, cleaning the toughest scuffs and soil from sidewalls. Spray cleaner on to a clean surface, agitate with a stiff tyre brush, rinse and apply a tyre dressing

Eimann Fabrik Tire Cleaner & Whitewall Brightener is specifically designed to clean tires also contains optical brighteners to clean and refresh whitewalls and white lettering. Some tire cleaners contain bleach to brighten whitewalls but bleach can turn the carbon black in tyres a dull gray colour –

Note: Westleys Bleache White- contains Sodium Met silicate and Sodium Hydroxide - neither is particularly paint, rubber or human friendly.

I'm no chemist but I'm having a hard time thinking that a 2 in 1 wheel & tire product is safer and more effective than a dedicated wheel cleaner and tire cleaner. I found the Eagle One wheel and tire cleaner to clean wheels well, but the tires didn't come out as nicely, which is why I think 2 products for 2 different materials may be needed. I was unaware of the Menzerna, Blackfire, and 3M products wheel and tire products, does anyone have experience using them?

TOGWT- I was also unaware of the Eimann Fabrik tire cleaner. I wonder if that is dilutable and how effective it is at various dilutions? Price isn't too bad, but TOL cleaner is still cheaper. Thanks for the info on the Bleache White as well. :).

DP, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, and P21S would all be safe for tires. Neither one will dry them out, and they don't have acid. Stick with either one and you will be safe.

I had aways held the opinion that a cleaner that claimed to be efficient with differing materials (I also very rarely use APC's for the same reasoning) would not clean either very well. Then I tried 3M Tyre/Wheel Surface cleaner and found it did clean both materials very well (FWIW-this 3M product did very well when tested by Guru Reports as both a wheel surface cleaner and a tyre cleaner)

" I don’t manufacture, sell or have any vested interest in any of the products cited; other manufacturers products may work equally well. I have tested these products and have found that they will perform the task more than adequately using the methodology and tools mentioned" JonM.
