I had a SUV in today that I detailed and all went well except the tires. I used a tire cleaner that isn't sold here; had it around and it worked for me but I always keep my cars clean.

Anway, even after applying tire gel, I started to see the brown showing through the gel.

What's a really good tire cleaner?

I use Meguiar's APC+ at 4:1. It has never let me down, but sometimes you have to spray and scrub the tire down twice.

I know Meg's Super Degreaser is a popular choice, as well as Optimum Power Clean, and Mother's All Wheel and Tire Cleaner.

The issue sounds more like process rather than product.

Was water pressure sufficient in the pre-spray and rinse?
Was product allowed to dry completely before removal?

If the issue was product related, then you would see direct negative impact on the 1st tire...before moving on to the rest.
 
I sprayed the formula on and let it do it's thing for several minutes as instructed. I then scrubed it with a very good brush. Washed it off and it looked good for a while but then the brown reappeared.

I think it's just the product.

I know the problem you're having..I have to deal with red clay stained tires..the best stuff Ive found is a cleaner called "555". It's made by a company here in Chattanooga and sold through a rep.
 
Mothers all wheel and tire, simple cheap effective and no acids
 
I use Megs super degreaser, a VERY stiff brush & a pressure-washer. Works great! The tyre turns a foamy brown as I'm scrubbing it.
If working on neglected wheels or getting really fussy you may need to do this 2-3 times until there is no brown at all whilst scrubbing...

There are many products that work well but Meguiar's Super Degreaser is one of the most versatile, effective, and lost cost cleaning products I've used to date. For tires and wheels I dilute Meguiar's Super Degreaser 4:1 and achieve outstanding results....:props:
 
My favorite tire cleaner is Amazing Roll Off but I've also had good luck with Meguiar's Super Degreaser

IME Meguiars APC @ 4:1 is not effective on very dirty wheels and here is the proof

The left side of the pic was cleaned with APC 10:1 1x and 4:1 2x, the center not cleaned and the right was cleaned with APC 4:1 1x and another product not sold here 1x.

I always use a APC to clean tires. With that said my go to cleaner/degreaser for tires is Chemical Guy's Extreme Orange APC diluted 5:1. Cost effective and gets everything but the filthiest of tires.
 
Meg apc+ and Zep orange at 4:1 never work for me on cleaning tires.
I use Zep purple 4:1 and autoglym cwc 1:1 on tires.

I agree! It's one serious cleaner.

Also what I do after initial scrub with brush and cleaner...

I spray tire again and this time scrub with a microfiber towel and continue to scrub with towel while rinsing. MF towel for final scrubbing is better than any brush. :cheers:
 
I have failed to find any tire cleaner that does better than Wesleys Bleche White. Gotta be hella careful, but I have always been very successful with it.
