Is there a thread or a chart anywhere that lists several different tire dressings in order of most shine, to least shine? I'm looking for something sort of glossy, but not over the top. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Optimums Opti-bond ...
:iagree:love OOB, but some tires react differently with certain tire dressings. You would have to make a chart for every tire brand on the market and even that might not work as tire manufactors change their formulas.

Cool. Well I had OOB in my shopping cart anyway, so thats what I will go with. Thanks guys.

Just a side note about OOB it works great for rubber trim and weather stripping also

i just tried my Poorboys bold n' bright tire gel and freakin' love it!! just bought another bottle with today's sale.

Tire Products

  1. Pinnacle Black Onyx
  2. Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel
  3. DP Gloss Tire Gel
  4. Ultima Tire & Trim Guard
  5. Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel
I've listed from 1 to 5 for level of glossiness.

All of these are superb performers with the "more glossy" going to Pinnacle and Wolfgang. Now this glossiness is not the wet shine you might be thinking of if you've ever used something like Meguiar's "Hot Wheels" tire spray.

While either the Pinnacle or Wolfgang are applied they do give off that wet appearance but as the product soaks into the rubber it tends to tone it down to a nice black satin finish. I apply all my tire treatments with a brush and a foam sponge.

DP Gloss Tire Gel goes on buttery smooth and dries to a deep dark rich blackness. It's has sort of a mint smell to it but goes away after it's dried.

Ultima Tire & Trim Guard is a great product and unlike when it's used on trim, tires require a bit more product to obtain a uniform satin long lasting look.

Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel is another good performer but it takes a couple of coats to get it looking good. This gives what I'd call the flattest finish although it does look quite good but not quite as rich as the three above.

I was going to say what Ron already said. The different looks between tire brands and the age of the tires can be as dramatic as you can possibly imagine.

I find 1 & 2 to sling a lot. If I wipe it down it tends to diminish the gloss.

Rsurfer makes a great point about different tires reacting differently. Taking that into consideration, Megs hyper dressing can be diluted from 1:1 up to 4:1. That way you can taylor the look you are after.

Meg's HD looks good, but after a rain it's gone.

Thanks for the great information guys. I've never really been a fan of the rich wet look on wheels, so I tend to stay away from dressings that you typically find locally. I've been using Optimum Tire Shine, and I really like it but the bottle is getting low and its time to try something else. I can't imagine OOB will be that much different, but none the less I've decided to give it a go.

Surf City Beyond Black, I really like it and its available over the counter. It has a nice matte finish and not glossy at all.

I like Megs hyperdressing cause you can dilute it to whatever sheen you want, and its water based so it wont leave a lot of silicon on the tires...BUT i live in AZ and dont have an issue with rain.

All Seasons Dressing is nice stuff to..and is solvent based so it lasts longer.

Poorboys Bold n' Bright is good stuff, i got a sample of it...but if you dont clean the tire often it will attract dust and make it pretty greasy...not horribly but thats why i prefer water based.

Now i also saw something that is like a clear coat for tires...literally...they look like glass...but it isnt sold by AG....ive seen some people think its TOO shiny..as it looks like clear coat lol...but its just another option ive seen, but i cant personally comment on it as ive never used it.

I use poorboy's bold n bright. I think it gives the perfect amount of shine, not to glossy. It is water based (it doesn't last through rain) and you can diulte it. I don't get much if any sling from it.

303 AP and WG BDTG are my two current go-to products, but I'm getting PERL and a sample of the Pinnacle stuff; things may change. I'm really big on Clean, Dark, Glossy, Non-Streaky and Non-Greasy looking tires.:xyxthumbs:

+1 On the wolfgang black diamond tire gel. Love that stuff. DP tire gel is good for a nice matte finish.
