tire dressing

My daily drivers get Optimum opti bond. I have white cars and have no problems. I put very little on with a sponge and let sit overnight before I go out.
 
Another vote for DP Gel & the ability to control it's look. Also for cleaning the tire thoroughly before application. I scrub with Megs APC+, rinse, then use my air compressor to get the rubber bone dry before a thorough 2-step application. Then forget about touching the tires for like a month, just rinse em off and they'll look great and NO sling IME.

I understand what FUNX725 is saying about the blooming. Sometimes you can clean a tire all day, but once it is totally dry after cleaning, there may be a little brown look to it. It's literally part of the tire and is OK.
 
I use the DP when I want a little more shine. If I want no shine I use optibond. Both are great and do not sling.

You will get better durability from the dressing as well as a more uniform coat. This is especially true with any dressing that is going to penetrate into the rubber. Anyway:

My phrase " cover-up the blooming" was intended to mean that:

Every time the tire rolls the antiozants will migrate to the tire's outer surfaces...blooming/browning/oxidation is occurring at that time with a tire dressing "covering it up" until the tire dressing erodes away.

IMO...If a tire dressing can "cover-up" blooming/browning/oxidation as a vehicle is driven, and, until the tire dressing has eroded away; then, even if complete and total removal of the blooming/browning/oxidation has not occurred during the cleaning cycle (which, IMHO, everyone does strive to remove and accomplish total removal) a tire dressing can "cover-up" the small amount that may remain.

PS: Thanks for including oxidation for another descriptive of blooming/browning.....some may not have known that. :)

Also thanks to A4 !.8....for your understanding of my posting and including the "when the tire is completely dry and how it may look" in your post.

Wow now you guys got me interested in the DP gel after I finish my Pinnacle sample. I had been looking at the Pinnacle cleaner/gel combo because I needed a wheel/tire cleaner.
 
Optimum calls itself a gel but it is really a liquid to me and noticed the same about another product called a gel. Is the term just marketing?

Personally on my customer cars I use the DP GTG and it tends to last a decent period of time... I tend to use it as a visual reminder to my customers that take very good care of their cars that when the tires start looking blah/bland/rough that is when they need to bring it in for a maintenance cleaning... Personal car is a test bed... Now I a m trying that Prima sample from Nick@ Prima that he gave me... I am hoping it will last a bit longer than most and it will look great doing it.. I also hope it goes into production too!
 
I just posed this the other day and it might give you some insight.

Any product will sling if you apply it too heavy or drive it too quickly...

Tire Products

  1. Pinnacle Black Onyx
  2. Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel
  3. DP Gloss Tire Gel
  4. Ultima Tire & Trim Guard
  5. Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel
I've listed from 1 to 5 for level of glossiness.

All of these are superb performers with the "more glossy" going to Pinnacle and Wolfgang. Now this glossiness is not the wet shine you might be thinking of if you've ever used something like Meguiar's "Hot Wheels" tire spray. Now, unlike Hot Wheels tire spray both the Pinnacle and Wolfgang tire products last!

While either the Pinnacle or Wolfgang are applied they do give off that wet appearance but as the product soaks into the rubber it tends to tone it down to a nice black satin finish. I apply all my tire treatments with a brush and a foam sponge.

DP Gloss Tire Gel goes on buttery smooth and dries to a deep dark rich blackness. It's has sort of a mint smell to it but goes away after it's dried.

Ultima Tire & Trim Guard is a great product and unlike when it's used on trim, tires require a bit more product to obtain a uniform satin long lasting look. This is probably the longest lasting product among the ones I've listed.

Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel is another good performer but it takes a couple of coats to get it looking good. This gives what I'd call the flattest finish although it does look quite good but not quite as shinny as the three above.

I think I may have misuderstood what you meant by "cleaning" off the tire, and dont worry to much about the browning. I know most of us spend a lot of time and expensive cleaners to do the best job we can. again, my fault.
 
I have had the DP Tire gel here for a while and am going to try it out today.

The really dislike the smell of mint, so I think unconsciously I have not reached for the bottle. lol.

I use mainly 3 dressing,

optimum opti-bond
adams SVRT
Swissvax Pneu

As for durability the Swissvax easily wins. Its truly water-proof the entire time it stays on the tire.
 
For sidewalls in good condition UTTG or ETS. You will find UTTG lasts a very long time. I'm hoping ETS lasts equally as long.

For any other tire DP or Opti-bond

I had taken a break from UTTG on my sky tires and was using pinnacle black onyx. However after using UTTG and ETS on that review the other day I can't wait to get back to using it on Sky.

I enjoyed it for a change of pace. A nice rich dark with a little more gloss than I usually go for but I much prefer the other ones I mentioned as they dry to the touch and last longer.

Specifically the UTTG. It lasts forever on my Sky (garaged) Looking forward to seeing how long it and the ETS last on the outside 24/7 vehicle I just put it on. Lots of rain lately and gets a ton of miles so it should be interesting.
