To buy or not to buy?

I decided on a Flex 3401, looking at pads today gave me a head ache. Which ones do you guys recommend?? I plan on using m105 and m205 for my polish and. Compound. For Sealant i was thinking Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845 and LSP I'm stumped. Thanks

I love the 6.5" Lake Country HydroTech's on my Flex, although I want to try the new Optimum MF's.

what do you want, bet price or best pad? Best price, get the VIP gift certificate, $100 for $65 and get the LC pads that are on BOGO. The $5 per pad will come out to $3.25 per pad. Get orange and white pads for sure. Then black, blue or red. Pick one.

LC hydrotech, easy get all three colors and you're covered.

More than a few people think that Buff & Shine pads, not sold here, are the best. Buff & Shine yellow pad for cutting. Not sure what the rest of their colors are.

What's BOGO? :)

I'll be getting this flex package

What do you think about the CSS that come in the kit? Flat pads better ? I want a good deal, but don't want to have pads break on me in the middle of polishing. Thanks

Pads are personal preference. I would get the CCS that come with the kit and buy some of the flats that are BOGO. you can decide for yourself. You will need more pads eventually anyway.

The 3401 is a fine machine. I own one. But, honestly, the GG6 is my go to machine. I especially love it with the Megs MF DA system. The 3401 wants to work me more than my Dewalt rotary. Maybe I just need to use it more to get used to it, but, I just reach for what I like and that is the GG.

Now I'm having second thoughts on the flex.. Thanks a lot!! Lol I would get the GG but I have a 30ft fiberglass trailer with minor oxidation and I think I'll need the flex power.. I was at one time just going to get the whole kit griots sells with polish and all. But found this site and see not too many people like griots polishes.. What do h guys think of Klasses?? Truck gets Abused in the az weather and offroad.

Why not consider the GG with a 5" backing plate and an array of 5.5" flat pads--the GG has the most power of the DAs and a lifetime warranty. For product the Duragloss Marine line of products, particularly 501, has a great reputation around here, but is primarily for Marine use and it's reasonably priced. Later if you need more aggressiveness you can always move to MF pads.

You're making me think about that. And I must say it makes sense. I honestly don't know why I never thought of that. Plus the cheaper price always helps(I can get more products :)

I personally would get the Griots and not get Griots polishes. They are OK, but, the Megs SMAT polishes and Menz polishes are superior. The machine will serve you well. It has plenty of power. I dont even use mine on speed 6. I have roasted many a pad trying to use it on that setting.

Then, someday, buy your Flex. You can use 2 machines (in fact, I use more than that). Set one up for large pads and 1 for small pads.

What is SMAT??

What is SMAT??
Somewhere around here is a long article or 2 by Mike Phillips about SMAT products. Good read if you can find it.

SMAT vs DAT in a nutshell is that Super Micro Abrasive Technology polishes employ very fine abrasives that dont break down. You polish as long as you need to and stop whenever. Diminishing Abrasive Technology polishes (the classic old style) start with larger abrasives that have to be broken down as you polish. They start out very abrasive and refine themselves to a fine abrasive as you work the polish. They are a little trickier as you have to find the right stopping point. Too little work and the abrasives havent broken down. Too much and you are polishing dry. The Griots polishes are DAT.

SMAT polishes are M105/205, D300/301, Ultimate Compund (UC) and Ultimate polish. I think there are others, but, those are the most popular.
