To Glaze or Not to Glaze?

CG EZ Creme is also an acrylic polymner glaze and I have used it under BFWD many times no issues. Preps paint a bit, IPA would as well before the sealant but gives dark colors a distinct look hence why I use that. I only use oil based glazes under waxes which I hardly do anymore as the only true protection, add those as toppers again for looks. I have never even thought about using a glaze under a coating as those specifically say bare paint. Just IMO, no science here.

In this case, science or not, your experiences/usage of particular products, their order of application, and the results you have perceived to have acheived is all that matters, isn't it. :)

Sometimes, more often than not, I base my car care product selection based on previous experience also. I don't, however, just throw caution into the wind in regards to "new" technologies. And I'm not saying you do either.

Note:
I have found this quote to be a fair assessment in regards to this discussion...you might also.

Don't despise empiric truth. Lots of things work in practice for which the laboratory has never found proof.

What gives distinct look on dark colors IPA?

The EZ Creme. IPA just helps remove residual polishing agents and oils for a squeeky clean surface ready for wax or sealant.

Since some people apply multiple coats of sealant for added protection, there has to be binding of the new coat of polymers to the existing sealant and not just to the paint. As long as the "glaze" is compatible with the sealant and the "glaze" binds to the paint with reasonable attraction, you should be able to use a glaze with some sealants.

I personally used OG Omega Glaze on '99, '00, '03, '06, and '08 BMW clear coat paint with a carnauba topper for many years. Omega Glaze essentually cleaned the paint and added gloss before using the wax. Wax protection was months when using that glaze and wax combo. I used Megs #7 under wax with older SS paints (50's, 60's, 70's and 80's vehicles) well before that.

What's the worse that can happen if you try a glaze? It's not like the wax or sealant will slide off the paint and puddle on the floor (to paraphrase Mike Phillips).

Part of the fun of detailing is finding new things that make your car standout. Good Luck!

What's your opinion of prima amigo?

I glazed the hood of my F-150 and couldn't tell it had been done...Maybe time for a re-spray.

Jeff,

What glaze did you use and in what shape was the F-150 hood that you applied it.

You may not see huge improvements from perfectly corrected paint other than maybe a pop in gloss. If the swirls are really bad, "you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear" either.
