To Have Xpel Applied or Not?

If you can don’t go through dealer try to go through xpel themselves or through local reputable installer. Ppf prices are insane from dealer ships. I work with an installer that uses suntek films. We sell it to the Audi dealer ship starting at 450 (quarter strip hood,80% of front bumper painted surfaces, door cups, and rear bumper deck) they sell it for 1200. If you were to come straight to we would sell it for 900. Another common thing is unfortunately the old crappy stuff fades. Some days depending on the adhesive the risk of peeling paint comes into play when removing old film. For this reason we take extreme caution when removing old film but some days it happens. In my opinion I would get the film removed PRIOR to the warranty date because this is when it’s most likely going to start causing problems.

Not gonna give advice on applying it or not on your vehicle. The one thing I want to add is that you should look into 3M products. There are comparisson videos on Youtube about Paint Protection Films and in some of the best ones I have seen the 3M film was outperforming Xpel and the other brands. So if you decide to install one on your car, do some research on the various products available.

Good Day All-

Bumping this as I would appreciate any more thoughts on PPF with long time ownership? We are getting a new car and normally keep them for about ten years. From reading this thread I am thinking I am better off just taking care of it and maybe a ceramic coating? Seems like PPF may not be the best solution long term, appreciate anyone's opinion.

Best regards, Tony

You normally keep cars for 10 years:
No problem.

Xpel has PPFs with 10-year-warranties.

Keep in mind that there are currently no Waxes,
Sealants, Coatings, etc.—no LSPs that you can
dip, or pour, out of some container that will ever
come close in providing protection that rivals that
of PPFs’.

When I first started this thread, members gave me great advice. Here's my experience two years in:
1- Very easy to take care of but use the proper techniques and products.
2- It saves the protected areas from chips and scratches. Also bird droppings, but if you don't clean it right away It could mark the film. But it's the film and not your paint.
3- Expel is a great company. They warranted a full replacement even though they didn't have to. That being said, make sure you know what is warranted and what is not. Also my installer has a good rapport with Expel and I think that definitely helped. Hence item #4.
4- Visit the detailer and take note of the shop and how experienced they are at applying the product and if they've been trained by the company of the product they use.
5- I owned the car for a couple of months before the Expel instal and had had a few light scratches and chips from highway and local street driving. It drove me nuts which is why I had the PPF done. I filled in the chips and scratches with Dr. Color Chip well before the instal to ensure it was cured.
6- I know you're keeping the car for a long time but keep in mind if you need to have it removed it costs about $200-$300 depending on the installer. You can't just pull it off.
7- Take the receipt to your insurance company and have it added to your policy so if any damage occurs you will be covered. ie: an accident.

All in all I'm glad I did it, and when I do purchase another vehicle, will definitely do it again.
