Took Some New Pics Yesterday...cute Little Animal

This is what I've spent so far:

Rebel XT w/ kit lens: $482
70-300mm lens: $177
50mm lens: $80

Not too shabby eh!

Those pics are great, I actually thought you did a wonderful job. I just got a Nikon D200 which I love, I am giving my Fuji S2 Pro a bit of a rest. After using the Nikon the Fuji pics look aweful, Nikon has so much more detail in the photos. But as everyone else says the majority of the outcome comes from the photographer NOT the camera.

Like you said, its the person behind it that matters. ;)

I love the lens, to get used to compensating for its lack of ability, I use a tripod or monopod alot and have also made myself use the manual focus on everything I take to get used to doing it fast. Adjusting the aperature and shutter speed with that, I think I am fairly competent with this. Hey I could only afford 2 lemons, just enough for a glass of lemonade :D

Yep, and as long as it makes you happy thats all that matters. But thats different for everyone.

But then again, you can only do so much with a lens that takes soft pictures. Some are more critical then others.

Took these pics with the kit listed above---and I didn't know crap about photography when I took them!! These were with the 75x300 lens.

Not bad for not knowing a thing about photography. #1 & 2 are very soft, nothing special. #3 well, as long as it makes you happy thats all that counts. But 1 and 2 could use a lot of help. 1 is very over exposed on the left, lacks detail, and slightly out of focus. 2 lacks detail as well and you cant see the face.

I didn't ask what you thought:joking::D.

Anyhow, that was offhand, no tripod and a ways away. I also used the "auto-exposure" feature in my picture editing program, so the exposure was probably much better/darker before the program changed it. I agree though about the lizards, I thought they should have been drawn in more, or used macro mode. I think my wife took those pictures.

And yes, taking pictures of my kids does make me happy;)

I know there is a lot wrong with this one, but this is one I took with my little point and shoot cheapo camera before getting the Rebel XT. I thought it was a nice capture....it's my current desktop background:)

The man said he didn't know anything about Photography! Those were great pics for a amatuer! Keep taking and keep sharing, I love them and appreciate looking at them. And D & D lighten up on these guys, they are taking great pics, they don't do it for a living, but for the love of it, which is a better reason to do it!

Sorry, should of asked if you wanted critique or not.

Read my post again because Im pretty sure I said they were good for an amateur. I dont take pictures for a living and Im an amateur too. Only been doing it for 10 months.

If they dont want a little C&C on their photos, then they can say no C&C welcome. Otherwise Ill critique them as I please. Its only helping them take better pictures.

First the pictures in this post are great. I also think people are taking D&D's critiques the wrong way...he's not bashing the shots, just pointing out small details that can help them take better shots in the future.

With that being said though, the majority of people don't have (or want to spend) thousands of dollars for top quality glass or photography equipment just to achieve that "pro quality" shot.

Grant it, top quality glass or equipment will do nothing for composition, subject matter, etc....that is the person behind that camera. It can help you get better exposure, spot on focus & sharpness, beautiful bokeh, etc. thus giving your shot that extra clarity & pop that is missing from pictures shot with consumer grade equipment.

The D200 is a great camera. I was going to order one about 2 months ago but couldn't find any available...but because of that I now have the D300 on preorder :righton:

Exactly. You dont need to spend thousands on equipment to take nice pictures. Thats why I keep saying it all depends on what the individual likes. And thats going to be different for everyone. Its not like Im saying that picture sucks, or you're terrible at taking pictures. Just offering some helpful advice to take better pictures.

If I hurt anyones feelings, then Im sorry.

Didn't hurt my feelings any, but the way you critiqued the pics in the above statement seemed a little "rough".;) 10 months? Ok, I'm less of an amatuer than you:) I don't mind critique at all, I was just posting the pics to show how the Canon Rebel XT takes good pics.

It's all good:cheers:

I like to tell it how it is and I dont think enough people do that. Too much sugar coating going on. The XT takes awesome pictures though. Thats what I use and recommend for people getting into dSLR's.

Niiiice...Great pics....

Taking good pics aint easy imo, takes a loong time getting it right, but those posted here are great, and that last pic of the moon!!! im going to use that as a screen-saver if you dont mind Scott...loved it
