Article: "While it may seem that automakers are focusing more on fuel efficiency than performance these days, cars are actually getting faster and (in some cases) cheaper. If you’re in the market for a performance car under $50,000, you might be surprised just how fast they can get."

Some of those cars you couldn't touch for 50k new unless you ordered it stripped with pleather seats, roll up windows, and an AM radio. My friend just bought a CLA AMG and it was like 63k.

Sweet care none the less.

Guarantee you the WRX is only faster 0-60 because of the gear ratios in the 5 speed vs. the 6 speed. Not weight.

I have a 500hp STi and when I take off the line vs. my buddies 350hp WRX he always has the lead.

Yep, I thought the same thing. I guess they based it on the MSRP of the base model.
It is interesting though, that half the cars on the list are 4-door models. I was expecting it would be all coupes.

Interesting enough theres a big market today for high powered sedans. 4 doors offer a bit more in terms of daily practicality, execs have always loved high hp cars without losing ability to carry people in the back. Performance wise Coupes do handle a bit better due to their lighter weight though, but this list wasn't for handling.

What I didn't Like about the list is that it should have read "Quickest 0-60 cars under $50k". The CLA runs out of steam quickly, but the launch takes advantage of it's AWD and Launch Control System. If it were Quarter mile times the CLA would be in the middle of the list. They trap at about 108, My Stock 13 Charger SRT traps between 114-115mph, my best is a 12.46 @115.5. The 5.0's post some good times as well.

Glad to see all the LX cars on there, oddly no 300SRT. But yeah, sure, base price on some of those are ridiculous, you couldn't even get a dealer to ORDER some of those at that price.

2001 Supra, swap out the turbos, bore it, beef up the internals and such

but dont forget to upgrade the brakes BIGTIME!!!!

That car, in my country, starts at roughly USD 90 000.
If you start adding options, it will go easily beyond USD 135 000.

Very cool article.

I'm glad to see the Camaro and Mustang on there. :dblthumb2:

American cars have always been Kings in straight line Drag style acceleration, I am surprised top spot is not a Dodge or GM car.

The thing is, most people aren't buying these cars to drag race in. They are buying them to drive to work, spin around some turns, and have some fun. I'll always take a better handling, nimble, and tight car over a car with a zillion horsepower.

I know, but American cars are not known to be nimble, they are know for raw acceleration. I am surprised a German car is at the top of that list is all.
