Lol... Thought I'd get you guys with the title. :). Don't worry there's lots of pics! Hehe

It was time for Tori's first oil change, so I thought I'd chronicle it. I was going to take her to the dealer for the first oil change, but I figured eh, why waste time and money. Real men do it themselves :). Besides I want to know it is done RIGHT!

I went with castrol titanium 0w20, and Bosch d3233 for the filter. The rest was typical stuff... She only had 3k miles on her, but I like getting the first oil change done no later than that.

But anyways, here's some pics to chronicle everything. I went and did Marilyn's oil change right after too.

First i gathered the gear. Yes, beer is a must.

Then I jacked at the following points, then used stands.

Looks like the 2012s have Phillips screws for mounts. Removed 7 of these I think.

I don't remember what size the bolt was now... 14mm I think?

Out comes her life essence!

DSC_0184.jpg

I had another beer while she drained.... ;)

I then used my favorite tool in the whole wide world. Strap wrench.... To remove the filter.

DSC_0187.jpg

Then I used the best trick in the book. Ziplock Baggie trick on the filter for ZERO oil spill.

DSC_0190.jpg

Yes, had more beer...

DSC_0192.jpg

Lubed the Bosch filter for install.

Hand tightened to snug, then 1/2 turn more via strap wrench.

Replaced 14mm bolt with new crush washer.

Fill with 4.2 quarts.

Reset maintenance minder, and enjoy rest of beer!

Tadaaaaaaa. Then I went and changed the Marilyn's oil.. 8 vs 4 quarts lol...

Great write up with great technique(). Probably gonna steal the zip lock trick for my next go around, thanks.

Nice :props:. No HDR shots though?

Gotta love the 8quarts in the 5.0 though, eh? Gets expensive real quick with synthetics.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using in Marilyn?

Everything hidden by a skid plate. Doesn't surprise me...when I opened the hood on the T/L I couldn't believe it...they really try to deter you from working on them. Then the first time I washed it I couldn't figure out what my wife had gotten all over the rear wheel wells...lol I feel ya on the 8 quarts of synthetic...I'm lucky enough to have one like that too.

Does synthetic oil really make a difference compare with regular oil in city driving?

Np problem man. Anytime. Ziploc is great stuff. ;)

Haha Chris! I was thinking about hdr, but when I'm covered in oil dirt and oil and beer, I take the quickest shot possible ;)

Yeah the dealer was gonna charge the same amount, if not more, for cheap oil. I figured I'd give her the good stuff for same cost, and I know it's done right, you know?

Oh and Marilyn get the REAL good stuff. Amsoil 5w20 signature series. All 8 qts of her.

Yeah, those plastic things are all over. Easy to remove. I see you have a maro? Very nice!

oh yes, synthetic is best stuff ever! Cheap insurance in my mind.... Why not give your car the best stuff?

I know what you mean about doing it yourself. I'm always nervous whenever I have to take my truck in for something I can't do.

Nice choice with the oil for Marilyn also.:props:

Yah these dearlerships man... I dunno. Warranty work even gets me worried. Oh well. I try to limit my visits there ;)

Great tip on the baggy!!

The beer kinda gives a who gives a $#|t attitude when you spill oil on the floor.

I also hold the drain plug slightly in the hole until the initial rush of oil slows.

That helps control the flow, eliminating any spills.

Synthetics rock. By doing oil changes myself, I save enough to use synthetics. I love the extended mileage I get out of it as well.

Yah I do that top, but inevitably, I still get some spill beyond the catch container. That's why I have cardboard down first :xyxthumbs::xyxthumbs:.

I guess I am not that coordinated lol.

I kept thinking about Monty Pyhon at the Hollywood Bowl. That beer is like making love in a canoe, ####### close to water :-)

Lol classic!

It looks like your filter hangs straight down so here's a tip that might help for next time. Fill the oil filter with oil, and your engine won't be oil starved while the filter fills up for the first few seconds when you start it up.:hotrod2:

interesting... I will have to remember this. Every little bit helps.

Nice write up. Doing oil changes yourself, won't that void your warranty?

no I have been doing my oil and have never had any problem with it when my truck need work I take in and they do it no questions ask

Oh yeah,...good tip. I do this as much as I can too, although my filter is more side ways...hah. Doesn't matter though, the filter can suck up a surprising amount of oil into the sides and therefore not leak when you turn it sideways...You just can't over-fill it obviously.
