Total Newbie Overwhelmed by Options!

When I was a kid a friend of mine bought a 442 4 Spd perfect black interior and straight rust free body with a single stage paint that was faded to hell and back. We hit that thing with rubbing compound and waxed it till the sun went down. Rewarding experience.

Save your money and find a Porter Cable 7424xp.

And I forgot to say I thought you asked a very good question that I have wondered myself. I would assume the abrasives can't magically fly away. ???

I would think a polish would take the path of least resistance and collect on the pad surface and in the pad to some extent. The abrasives mechanical clean, the wax solovent chemically cleans and evaporates away leaving behind wax, abrasives, removed clearcoat, or paint, and "dirt" trapped in the polish residue. When you wipe away the residue, most of what should remain is a light coat of wax.

What I posted above is my personal opinion of how it works.

Here's some info Mike has posted on cleaner waxes and AIOs.

When you wax a car, you have to wipe off the excess wax.

When you use an AIO, the dirt from the paint typically gets transferred into the pad and turns it dirty. When you wipe off the excess residue (just like you have to with regular wax) any lingering dirt goes into your towel. AIOs chemically release dirt from the surface and suspend it in the dried excess.

AIOs with abrasives do the same thing and remove paint according to the cut of their abrasives. You wipe off the abrasives just like you do when you use any compound or polish.

Klasse AIO works pretty well by hand, but it'll be a workout. It also wipes off very easily. The Klasse high gloss sealant glaze does not wipe off easily if it goes on too thick. Use a damp yellow foam pad and put the sealant glaze in a small spray bottle. Spritz the panel with the spray bottle and work the KHGSG into the paint with the damp applicator until it thins out to where you can barely see where you've put it. You can also spritz the applicator with the KHGSG and then work it into the paint. Just remember to spread it thin, or you'll have Popeye forearms by the time you get it all off the paint.

Anyone have experience applying Klasse Gloss Sealant or Collinite 845 by hand? These two products, either alone or in combination, seam to be a favorite in terms of looks and durability. But if I definitely need a DA for those then I'll have to put them on the future wish list.

I called Autogeek specifically to ask about sealants and coatings...what would be the easiest for a beginner to apply by hand while providing the longest lasting protection. They recommended Wolfgang Sealant.

Also, would you guys recommend diminishing polish, like "Griots Garage Fine Hand Polish" or a non diminishing polish, like "Meguiars Mirror Glaze #9 Swirl Remover 2.0" or "Meguiars Ultimate Polish"?

Either Wolfgang 3.0 or Blackfire Wet Diamond Paint Protection are both exceptional products. Super easy to apply by hand and excellent durability. Two of my favorite products. They will both look great on red.

As your'e doing all this by hand keep it simple.

This would be a great 1-2-3 system. They are designed to work synergistically with each other.

This step first after claying:

BLACKFIRE Gloss Enhancing Polish, prewax polish, car polish

then the icing on the cake

BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, paint sealant, synthetic sealant, blackfire sealant

Then as a maintainer:

BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Spray Wax, spray car wax, aerosol wax

and there's your 1,2,3 step system.

There will most certainly be an nice 4th of July sale next week :props:

Practice the 2 bucket wash and your pretty much good to go. You can ease into other stuff as you become more comfortable.

I hope this helps.
