I'm a backyard/garage detailer washing and detailing my car and, now, several neighbor cars. I've only ever used old bath towels and other soft towels for drying (stop throwing rotten fruit at me!!) without, that I can see, any adverse results in the paint. I usually take my largest towel to a totally wet car and the follow with a medium size and softer towel to pick up the streaking.

Until recently I used the Meguiar's Crystal 3-step cleaner, polish, and wax and have now tried a couple Griot's products and have found what I'm sticking with, Meguiar's Ultimate compound, polish, and wax with the Fast Finish as a LSP. Affordable and easy to apply and take off which works for me.

Last year I purchased some yellow Chemical Guys MF towels (12x12) from Amazon and they seem to work well except they're linty as heck, as in wiping off a QD product leaves a pile of lint where I picked up the towel. Maybe I am washing them incorrectly (well, I pretty much know that I am) as I wash them with my regular terry and cotton towels (again, stop with the rotten fruit).

In any case, I'd like to resupply with proper drying and product removing towels. Perusing the forums here I started seeing different brands and retailers, but then the GSM numbers came up and I got lost. So, I am looking for some help in selecting the appropriate type of and size towels for drying and removing a variety of products, e.g., compound, polish, wax, lsp, and QD.

Also, I'd love some ideas on the proper washing and drying of the towels so as not to contaminate or otherwise have them all linty.

Lastly, do you all use some kind of blower to dry before using a towel or do you go at the just washed, totally wet surface with a towel?

Really appreciate the advice, tips, insight...thanks in advance.

let me recommend the best drying towel you'll ever own. Griots Garage PFM Terry Weave Drying Towel. they are great !! the only advice I can add is to get the smaller one. I believe they still come 2 in a package for about $22-. I have a couple of them & also the large one(25x35 ?) but prefer the two smaller ones. the reason is that they really soak up the water & that larger one is tough to wring out. two smaller ones is all I use for my reg. cab pickup & I don't need to wring them out. trust me you'll be impressed with these towels.

Thanks... Do you use them on a soaked car or after blowing most of the water off? If soaked, what do you follow it up with to clean up the left behind streaking? Or is there no streaking?

With the PFM towel I usually don't have any streaking or water left. If so I'll dab those areas. Blowing is always preferred if you can do it and not get dust all over your wet car. The less drying contact, the better. Not usually an option for me. I have a large PFM that I used without wiping. I follow up with a small PFM where needed.
