Tried out my GG 3" for the first time

Up to this point the only thing I've used has been my Flex 3401 and I absolutely love that tool. I got the GG 3" to hit those spots that the Flex is just too big for since I don't feel comfortable stepping down to this small of a pad even with the smaller backing plate I have for it.

Some things I noticed using the GG 3" compared to my Flex.

1. It will make you truly appreciate the speed and power of the Flex.

2. You really have to slow down with it and let the tool work. I was so used to the forced rotation of the Flex that I would catch myself not paying enough attention to how the pad was spinning.


I only have one before and after pic since all I polished was my new to me cobra side skirts that I'm going to put on my Mach 1.

I used M105/205 on LC HT tangerine pads. I'm happy enough with the results for now. I'll revisit and try to get a better finish when I do the entire car.

BTW these were sold to me "in excellent condition" according to the previous owner :bash:

Hopefully soon I can get some time off and really dive in to the black Mach 1 and get some good before and after pics of it.

Looks nice.

I bet it being much lighter than the Flex also made you feel good:)
Can't have enough polishers.
 
I also noticed something else interesting to me. This was my first time polishing on black paint. On my DSG car M105 will finish down great. Really don't leave any hazing or anything. On the black paint when I finished with the M105 the paint had a slight haze to it. Best way I can describe it is that the paint looked cloudy. The M205 is a must on this black paint.

I'm not sure if that is normal since black shows everything or just something wrong in the technique I'm using, but it finished down great with the M205 so I was happy.

Oh yes and it is definitely easier to handle. Although I can say that about halfway through the second side skirt I was really missing the speed and capabilities of the Flex.
 
I know too well being I own a black car.
If you use the 105 you must follow up with a fine polish and pad but what a great combo the twins are.

This is my first black car so I've been learning all about how I have to constantly wash the car to keep it looking good, but man is it worth it.
 
I find the WG Über compound is the way with detailing a black car.
Finishes down so well, give it a try when you can.
It's now my go to compound when dealing with heavy defects.

I've tried to get a free sample the past 3 times I ordered, but was sent wgtsr every time. I was amazed how well that finished down compared to M105. I still want to wait to pull the trigger on a full bottle till I sample it though. Or might just go with FG400 when I'm out of M105.
 
Did the 3" gg seem underpowered like most say? Or you had to be very cognizant of what you were doing? Not very forgiving?

I have a 6" gg , and installed the 3" pads for tight spots, but sometimes the machine is too tall.

Honestly it worked pretty much exactly how I expected and does exactly what it was designed for. It is perfect for tight panels like a-pillars or on my buddies car where there is only a few inches of paint between the sunroof and windshield. I went in knowing that the speed would have to be close to maxed out to really get the swirls and scratches out. I wouldn't say it's underpowered since this kind of tool doesn't really need a ton of power when you consider how it is designed to be used.

All my work was done on speed 5-5.5 out of 6. As long as you keep an eye on how the pad was spinning so you can adjust pressure it is an easy and great tool to use. I would def. recommend it to complement your larger 6" GG. I know I'll use it often in the spots where my flex is just too big.

Most sellers of plastic car parts has the opinion that if all the pieces are there and none of the cracks interfere with mounting than they are in excellent condition.
Having original paint still sticking to it is just a bonus.
You wouldn't believe some of the crap that I have seen offered for sale over the years.
