Trim & plastic protection

Dlux is on the list, that + the 1Z Deep Plastic Cleaner or Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner.
Gotta love the results + pics

Sorry to be off topic a bit. what are few products I can use to clean the black plastic trim before applying Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant?

Use mothers new heavy duty trim restorer then use Wolfgang exterior trim sealant

Forget all those dressings - none of them are worth the bottle they are poured in. Clean the plastic with 1Z Deep Plastic Cleaner or Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner. Then coat it with DLux if you want a pro look.

Pre-WOW cleaner followed by WG Exterior Trim Sealant. I was disappointed by Black WOW's durability but love the cleaner.

I agree, I feel the pre wow works get prepping trim for a coating. the black wow looks great afterward, but after about a week it begins to fade

Did you even read the thread before posting your question?

I recommend cleaning your plastic trim with Mothers B2B Heavy Duty Cleaner first, before applying a dressing.

Below is a before & after snapshot of the cleaning power of this product, and well...results speak for themselves.

It's a good product but I hate the brush it comes with.

How did you apply it then? With a mf towel?

Yeah just a standard MF towel and a few small drops of product. I PM'ed you the link to the full review I did on it.

This product is now a staple in my arsenal for cleaning plastic & other trim before applying Gtechniq C4 on clients vehicles.

I'm guessing your trim was spotted before you applied 303. That's what old oxidized plastic trim looks like. You need to use mothers new trim cleaner and then put some dressing on it.

No, previous spotting or oxidization on the trim, as it was in new showroom condition, before I applied 303 Aerospace, so I was concerned that somehow using 303 actually dried it out (Doesnt make sense that it would, so trying to understand how the trim ended up with a duller, looks like dried out spots in the rubber after the 1st wash, than before I tried using the 303.) The trim without any type of product on it had a smooth appearance and was shiny, but as you can see if the pics there are now dull areas in the trim, the pic of the metal window trim piece shows how the paint looks like it might have even faded etc. I didn't want to try another product that would possibly make it worse, which is why I asked you guys.

Sorry if I might be over paranoid lol, it just took alot to get the car so trying to do whatever I can to keep it looking new and to maintain it the best possibly way. Thanks for the suggestions on the trim cleaners that will hopefully get the trim back to looking like the original condition, then I'll give the Dlux a try.

That new Mothers B2B is AWESOME!

Really? I never used the brush, how did it perform for you?

Love it! I didn't use that brush either, but now because I thought it too stiff.
I had a brand new pair of the bigger Mothers detailing brushes, like toothbrushes on steroids, with a little rubber cleaner tip thingy on the back end. I took a sharpie and labeled one B2B and went at it. Worked wonders on a 15 year old Jag that had likely never been detailed!

Did anyone else notice that this new stuff is at the very least using the scent from 409? Seems like ultra-concentrated 409 if you ask me!
:checkit: Even my wife said, "Who spilled the 409?"

Darned stuff works like a charm though!:dblthumb2:

The 303 did the same thing to my side mirror base and my cars a 2012 so it wasn't old already. I still use 303 for interior

I've stopped using 303 almost entirely because Optimum's products do a much better job on external vinyl. On my tonneau cover, 303 just washed off leaving a mess on the paint.

I have a Ford Ranger with a lot of external vinyl that was starting to look pretty gross because up until about 2009, I hadn't found anything that would endure rain. Finally, I found and purchased Mothers B2B and it worked very nicely. It was a real life saver.

It's amazing how much progress has been made in the last few years with products to care for external vinyl and plastic. I've been able to keep the vinyl looking good with Optimum Tire Shine that offers a better value. Recently, I sprayed the vinyl with some Optimum Car Wax to see how it does because it offers full spectrum UV protection.

IMO 303 Aerospace is an outdated product. There are better products out on the market, like you stated Optimum being one of them. You ever considered permanent trim solutions? Im releasing a review soon on Gtechniq C4, you might be interested in it.

I really liked your "I live my life a quarter panel at a time." line.

As far as permanent solutions, my problem is that I'm not driving much anymore so my own ride isn't much of a test. I did a moderate detail of my brother's truck and I used Solution Finish on it. It works reasonably well in that the results look good but I noticed it was mostly gone on the back bumper step panel after about 3 months. That may not be a fair test. I bought the 12 oz bottle and the way it spreads, it looks like I've got enough for the next 10 years. But that's not so bad, I''ve got enough wax to last me and my descendants 50 years.

I'll read up on Gtechniq C4 and keep an eye out for your findings.
