Try not to laugh...

That's bad, looks like they need to file a warranty claim....

Sand down and repaint...... Body shop time...

Ouch. What year was the car? Was it originally applied when new or was it something she picked up used and bought then even though the paint was trashed?

$3000?! don't those people have a conscience? how can they sleep at night?

Wow, that's too bad for her. Even at the PORSCHE dealer I think it was somewhere around $1,000 for the paint protection. I think if you want the leather, Alcantara, and fabric coated then it jumps to the $3,000 range.

The only nice thing about the paint protection (crap) they offer is: it covers all rock chips for free under warranty. Still, that being said, the aforementioned is terrible and should always be declined. If you want paint protection, opt for a coating and a clear bra.

Hopefully your customer gets her paint covered under dealer warranty. Live and learn, I suppose...

Sorry, her total warranty with paint, rust, and leather was $3000. It was applied when the car was new 7 years ago. The warranty was good for 5 years. Yes she will need to paint it. Funny because people come in to our shop with paint like this and they want us to try and correct it! Too late for this poor lady, she was very nice and tipped $40 on top of the $55 wash and wax she received.

As PT Barnum said..."There's a sucker born every minute", she and many others have been taken to the cleaners on shams and scams

The sad thing was all she had to do is wax the thing 2 or 3 times a year or have it waxed and it would have been fine.

One bottle of NXT would have done that.... It would have lasted the whole 7 years easy.

This lady sounds very wreckless with her money. Give me her # !!

:)

I guess they use the 5 year warranty number because usually clear coat failure will occur after the 5 years so they're covered lol.

That's because the masses just don't know much about the paint on their car. They pick the kind of car they want to drive or need for their lives and then pick a color that's purdy and that's about as far as their "paint knowledge" goes.

That would be my guess too...

Dr. David Ghodoussi told me the UV inhibitors in the clear layer of paint have a half life of 5 years.

That means if you bought a car in the year 2010 by the year 2015 have of the UV Inhibitors ability to absorb or inhibit the harmful rays are now diminished.

The number would probably be reduced if the factory clear layer has been made thinner than original by any sanding, compounding or polishing.

Another important factor would be the geographical location of the car. Cars that spend their time closer to the equator will receive more exposure to the sun.

:)

We are in Hawaii and cars get baked! Yeah some people have zero clue about taking care of a car.

Just to clarify, a half-life of 5 years means that every 5 year the clear coat protection is halved. So after 5 year it's 50% of the original protection, after 10 years it's down to 25%, after 15 years it's down to 12.5% and so on. I am guessing that doesn't take into account wear and tear on the clear coat from washing, contaminants and all that.

I would be really interested in seeing some UV protection numbers for the various waxes, sealants and coatings. Can any one of you guys get access to this info?

Just in defense of this poor lady, if you pay 3000$ for a paint protection, you would expect it to work as advertised. I would not blame her for it, I think she was taken by someone without any moral code, but how can she know that?

We sell something similar in paint coatings, they are supposed to last a very long time and not need waxing either. I have seen some videos of the result after a few years and it looks like the product is working as advertised. Maybe she got something similar that was untested and it did not last.

Hard to say for certain, but no matter what I think she did show great care for her vehicle by purchasing a super expensive treatment. Just very sad it did not work as it should have.
