Tundra single stage paint - HELP!

Look at my white 2008 Tundra I reduced the midtone levels in photoshop to make it easy to see. The Dealer says oxidation is not covered under warranty ,but there is a warranty problem whith big oval shaped spots .
something was done wrong at the factory, and thy will repaint it because its coming from under the paint.
it looks like i can fix mine but will it come back or just still be there under my bandaid ?

I downloaded then uploaded your picture into your gallery here on AG so I could insert it to make it easier to see for everyone... took about 20 seconds...

The paint looks like it's stained, dirty and stained.

Has the truck been sitting out side, unwashed or any kind of paint maintenance for years?

At least that's what it looks like, it looks like dirty, stained paint. See this article,

The Lesson White Paint Teaches Us

That's the only time I've seen paint look like the paint in your picture. Any compound, paint cleaner or cleaner/wax will clean the paint and restore a bright, white finish.

:)

sorry the original was like 18 mb and 4000 x 3000 i saved it real small but could of tried to match you upload limit

its clean and shiny you only can see the spots in the right light at the right angle thats why I darkend the image in photoshop to bring out the detail

here is a shot of the hood after the dealer installed swirles they missed the curves and I did that spot by hand with ultimate compound

I bought it with 17,000 miles I wash it once a week at a aut..caugh..matic wash i think the problem is when their new they come with a bottle of sealant in the glove box that says use twice a year to keep paint warrantee of couse I never got that bottle and did not know the paint was single stage, the dang dealer didnt even know

This is the hood after the dealer installed swirles they missed a lot of spots too I did this small spot by hand with ultimate compound to see how hard it was

Buff that thing out!

Generally speaking, the factory paint is the best paint because of all the quality controls that go into the manufacture/painting process.

Either compound it or get a strong cleaner/wax like the XMT 360 and go to town on the paint. The paint in the picture looks a lot worse than the paint on this and it came out like a brand new paint job with just one product and some time behind the polisher.

Well, that's great news about the larger oval spots on the paint being covered. That's my biggest problem now. I will say that I had all of those water drop looking spots on my entire truck as well. I was able to remove them with the ultimate compound on an orange pad using my porter cable. I didn't do it enough though because I can still see them in the right light on my hood, and I'm sure the rest of the truck.

What do you guys think about pursuing the respray? I have never had an entire car resprayed. I don't want to get into bigger problems later down the road. Thoughts please.

I am still going to call the corperate office again and tell them I want mine painted .
another thing is I had a long scrape on the right side of the truck from front to back
( someone side swiped me) , So the dealers paint and body shop repainted the whole right side of the truck. with a 2 stage white, should I really be mad about having 2 stage on one side and single stage on the other?

You did go in and complain about the paint within the warrantee period right YES YOU DID

I really would rather not have a respray. I tried the compound and it worked really well. The spots disappeared and I have only done the compounding. It should look great after a polish/seal/wax. Thanks!

I know exactly what you are talking about. It's not oxidation. I also have a white 2008 Tundra with 3 softball size "blemishes" on the drivers side of the vehicle. I think they were where either the dealer or the factory tried to buff out imperfections using some sort of machine polisher. I think the clear coat was altered in the area that was repaired and is not different than the rest of the vehicle. My blemishes are also only visible in certain lighting.

Tundra - I am planning on purchasing a DA soon. Which compound did you use to fix the blemishes?

Thanks!

As someone suggested early on in this thread I used Maguiers Ultimate Compound on an orange pad on my pc7424, then Klasse polish and sealer on white pad, followed by Max wax on a gray pad. It's an all day project... sun up to sun down. I wish I had taken it to the dealer before I did the work because now I know they'll say they can't see them. My warranty is up this month so I need to pay them a visit to get the complaint "on the books" regardless.

Thanks for the follow-up, we do appreciate it. Also thanks for sharing how long it took to do the job right, other's reading this into the future will understand that restoring the paint on their rig isn't a one or two hour project. Sometimes it makes it easier on a person physically to break up the project into sections, like the front clip and doors, the next day the bed and roof...

You have pictures don't you?

Print this thread out in landscape mode and give them a copy.

Thanks. I will try something similar. So you are going to pursue this issue with Toyota? I was thinking I would to, my warranty is up in early July. But I don't really want to deal with a respray. Please let us know the outcome when you go into the dealer.
Thanks

The dealer really screwed my paint up . I can only see it at. Sunset or at night under street lights . There are holograms buffer marks everywhere. And after washing it I still see lots of oxidation.

If you take a picture. Let someone. Photoshop it, lower the midtone levels and play with the contrast the spots will jump right out and be very easy to see

So I visited the local dealer here in Stuart. They were really great about it. I spoke with the service manager. I was really blunt, basically told him to give me the truth if he had seen white Toyotas come back with oxidation problems. I expected an emphatic NO, but he said yeah all the time. I told him where the oval spots were. He took pics and said he'd get it in front of the local Toyota rep. If that didn't work he'd escalate to the district rep. In short, nothing has been done yet, but he said a respray is in order. The question is do I want a respray and the potential problems there, or deal with the high-maintenance paint that's on it already. Consequently they use a local paint & body shop that has a good reputation around town.

Thoughts anyone?!?

It'd be a pain to be without a truck for a few days, but the paint will bother the whole time you own the truck if you don't. Just my 2¢. Usually not worth face value though, haha.

Good luck with whichever route you take.

how many passes on each section should I do with the orange pad and UC ?

To actually get some semblance of a shine it took 6-8 passes left/right, up/down, etc. The actual oval spots took more attention. Start with that then wipe it off to see if you have shine, if not go more.
