Hey all, iv'e been looking at the turtle wax hard shell wax for a while now and cannot decide weather to give it a try. It says it lasts up to 12 months but that sounds too good to be true. It also comes with an applicator pad. Any opinions or comments about this product would be greatly appreciated and the question is, is it a good product? cheers all :)

No it's not good.... If ur wanting something OTC/store bought go with either Meguiars Ultimate liquid wax OR if ur wanting turtle wax then get their ICE synthetic wax.... The hard shell stuff is garbage and not worth the trouble

You've got to be kidding, that stuff is from the 80's .:nomore:

Ok so maybe i should avoid it haha. Meguiars liquid wax is a little bit out my price range at the moment but do u think it would be best to just wait and buy the meguiars?

Ultimate liquid wax is only $20 and comes with a foam applicator pad as well as a microfiber towel.... If I were u I would wait till u could buy it

•IMO:
-Your vehicle needs protected by an LSP
-So...use the Wax you've already got,
or can best afford.
-No need to be/become a "wax snob"!

•Remember:
-Just as you'd do with any other car Wax:
All you got to do is follow Hard Shell's
application directions...You'll be pleasantly
surprised with the results. :xyxthumbs:

It does the job.

Super Hard Shell is a "cleaner wax", which is great if you haven't polished your car. You don't want to lay down a premium, pure wax type product over "dirty" paint.

SHS can be difficult to remove, but does hold up well.

Meguiar's Cleaner Wax in the maroon bottle is at a similar price point, and is a very user friendly product.

You could make it really simple with a wash / clay / cleaner Wax process to get started.

Meguiar's also offers the Smooth Surface Clay Kit, and a Quick Detailer. Combined with the cleaner wax, it's a nice system to get started on for the most basic of paint care.

if you want something otc that will clean the paint (will only be aggressive by means of application) and add some protection, megs white wax (can be used on any color car) would be a great choice. top that with ultimate quik wax and you'll have an excellent combo...

If the turtle cleaner wax is the only thing available in your price range and you don't want to wait to save some more money, I'd go ahead and use it. Have fun and enjoy the results! For just a little more money, as someone else already mentioned, the Meguires cleaner wax in the maroon bottle might be great for you. It might just be a couple dollars more.

There are better products out there for not much more money. But all of us have a budget! Do what works for you and enjoy the process. If it's a brand new paint job, I'd recommend waiting until you can afford something a little better.

You might also enjoy Turtle Wax Ice Spray Wax. I think it's about $8.

Most walmarts have marked down the white wax. I see it for 5 monies on clesrance often

If it were me and I had to choose- I'd go for the Meguiar's cleaner/wax and get the liquid version.

My guess is you're working on a daily drive and if that is the case then you want to use the product heavy or wet. That means don't just apply a thin coat.

Do a Google search fo the below article and read it. Lots of good info...

I think the OP may be referring to this:

It is a paint coating available OTC for about $15.00.

I have it and am experimenting with it on my Dart trunk lid. I'm doing a side by side comparison with Meguiar's Paint Protect. Both claim one year durability. The trunk lid got washed, clayed, polished and an IPA wipe down before application. Since then it's just been washed with Meguiar's Deep Crystal or Adam's Rinseless wash. There will be no boost applied until spring. If it works like there tire coating then that will be two money savers in my detailing arsenal. Without preparation like we do for paint sealants or coatings I don't see their typical customer getting one year of durability.

FWIW : I found the DP Paint Coating and LC applicator pads far easier to use on the rest of the Dart. :xyxthumbs:

Kind of doubt it...Especially not at that price!!

Turtle Wax's T-123R and T-223 Super Hard Shell
can be had for ~$4-5. :)

it is so hard to remove, isn't worth the effort to be honest. there are probably a hundred or more better alternatives out there. Meguiars or mothers anything over the counter is better than TW

No need for all of this: to no avail-ing,
Turtle Wax Hard Shell is not that unique.
'Cause just like most things detail-ing:
All it takes is the right technique. :props:

Ok thanks for the replies guys. I know i may sound like a bit of a tight arse but in my local stores, the Meguiars liquid wax is $50 and the turtle wax one is just $19. Meguiars stuff around here costs an arm and a leg.

Wow, for those prices I'd be using the turtle wax as well. I used to use it. It does the job, so don't sweat it too much.

Where are you located for wax to command those prices?

Hi there, Im located in New Zealand and my main local stores being Super Cheap Auto and Repco.

I purchased 2 tubs of Turtle Wax Hard Shell about 2 years ago. They were on special for 4$ at the local Canadian Tire so I figured why not. The reason I purchased them was to use them on my part time job's vehicle. I did not want to spend much money on product but wanted the car waxed because it saves me a lot of time on washing it. When it's protected, all I have to do is power rinse it and it's clean enough. When it's not protected I have to actually wash it and it takes way too long.

Anyhow. I used the wax once and never again. It did offer good protection and looked decent. The issue was removing it from the paint. Oh My God! I have never worked so hard to remove wax in my entire life. That thing is like glue when it dries. If you were to use a polisher with a bonnet it might be ok, but by hand it's an exercise in endurance and patience. After doing that I got myself a bottle of Meguiar's D156 that I leave in the car and use once in a while.

That's interesting you say about it being difficult to rub off as i have heard others say the same thing. Do you think i could just use a good quality "wash and wax" product like Meguiars and be done with it? How much protection do you think it actually offers? Cheers.
