Hi everybody!!
Old timer gone missing.... It's cool to pop in here to see what's been going on and to see if I recognize anyone and see quite a few old timers still on here.
Oh my how much has changed since I been here last. Besides myself getting older, fatter and less tolerant, my Dad developed Dementia along with his other long term issues and I decided to take off work completely to become his primary caregiver, losing all of my momentum business wise. Pop finally passed away early January of this year after a pretty grueling last 6 months. Man!! I've heard people say over the years how hard a job taking care of the elderly was.... they weren't kidding!! Especially a parent... there were a lot of things that happened that I'll never be able to unsee... fast forward a few months and my trusted best friend and sidekick Dirty Boy, who assumed the role of Companion Dog to my father, took his final scooter ride and car ride to take his walk over The Rainbow Bridge to be with his Pappy.
Pretty taxing period, where a lot of sorrow, pain and effort were experienced in pulling things off to keep their pain and wants to a minimum. I thank God that I was able to remain sober through it all and to be there for my father and see the scales of ego and pride fall from him, to reveal the true person he came up as and to further gain an understanding of who he truly was and why things went down the way they did throughout our lives together as father and son. Bridges were rebuilt, fences mended and a deep sense of realization, understanding and love developed between us. He was cared for, clean and comfortable to his very last breath and I get to live out my years knowing I pulled off something I never thought I could handle.
2 months away from 20 years sober at this point, It's hard to believe!!
It was through the process of changing everything in my life to become and stay sober, that I became interested in detailing cars to fill idle time when I had no idea of what to do with myself otherwise. I'd do my 8 to 10 hour daily shift as a maintenance mechanic at the plant, get off work, hit my 12 step meetings and then wash cars as a way to make a little extra cash. Eventually I started wanting to polish the cars, so I bought me a wax spreader from Wally World, a bottle or two of polish and began to tax that 10 inch, dual handle, plastic body buffer so hard that sparks and flames began shooting out the cooling vents!! I laterally tossed it to the ground and watched the fire melt the thing down to a molten pool of plastic in the driveway, but somehow I found the whole experience calming. A sense of serenity and a stillness of mind enveloped me as I ran that buffer to death, so I want back and bought another, and another, and another until finally asking Jeeve's what the most expensive car polisher in the world was, figuring If I threw money at the situation I'd end up with unmatched quality!! At that time, The "Mega Cyclo Kit" was the goal, and thus I found and joined the detailing forums. It was Detail City actually, at the time owned by Dwayne McPeeks and Troy Armstrong out of Bradenton Florida, but their store had it drop shipped to me from Palm Beach Motoring Group, the predecessor of Autogeekonline.com.
I stuck around for a few minutes to learn a ton of info and share a little until life took me to other places. I do pop back in from time to time and thought since this time, it's been such a long time that I should reintroduce myself. Hi all. I'm Tuscarora Dave. Still alive and still choosing positivity!!
