Tuscarora Dave's miscellaneous stuff thread.

Hahh! Geeez--Goats! And I thought I had it bad with the occasional cat trying to get on the car.
OMG, that's almost my thoughts exactly!! (scratch the occasionally however). And I thought feral cats were bad. Goats! Of all things! Goats!

I got the top of the car done this evening. It is definitely not OEM paint. This stuff is hard as nails. Wool pad, Mothers Rubbing compound at 2000 RPM followed buy orange foam pad Mothers Rubbing Compound 1800 RPM and then the Flex 3401 finishing pad with 205.

These photos don't really do the damage justice but it will give you an Idea what I am up against with hard as nails red paint.

It gives me an idea of what goat hoof was up against!

Finally figured out how to restore all the detailing photos that were seemingly lost on my old computer after a virus attacked it. Thanks to forum member KimTyson I was able to figure it out. I admire the computer technicians of the world. Well I can finally put together a new portfolio of photos for showing to perspective clients. I've got a ton of great photos since the last time I put one together.:dblthumb2:

OK I take it back. I'm completely clueless with this computer. I want to throw it right through the kitchen window out into the yard with all the wires still hooked to it and then bring my van up and run it over 27 times.

Did a little wheelchair lift repair on this really cool and really high tech mobile classroom last week. This rig has a satellite dish, 20 late model laptop computers, a science lab with 4 microscopes and other cool stuff too. While the driver was at the shop, we talked about him getting it washed on a regular basis. We'll see how that goes.

Congrats Dave!

The black cowling surrounding the windshield wipers will scratch (swirl) like the dickens if you just look at it too long.:xyxthumbs:

EDIT: I recognize the cowling and the Freightliner chasis (wheels are the tell), but not the grill oval (nameplate).
Roof nosecap is reminiscient of a Winnebago, circa 2007.

You know your big rigs VT. It is a Winnebago. The Braun UVL (under vehicle lift) wheelchair lift is a 2010 so I'd assume the rig is either an 09 or 2010 model. Pretty cool machine. I hope to see it again sometime.

Nothing major...just been around them for a minute. :dblthumb2:

if get`s in your maintenance , a good sealant , or coating will help you clean it easier ;)

No scheduled work in the shop until tomorrow morning. Think I'll just camp out here in front of the computer until the phone starts ringing. Been busy as all get out, nice to have a day to just rest.

Go take Jack for a loooong walk ;)

An old coworker had given me a really old 8 track/AM/FM receiver to hook up at my shop. After all this time being there and after another friend gave me some cheesy old home speakers that look to be from the late 60's or early 70's, I decided to finally hook up the old "Retro Rig" and have some jams at the shop.

I liked the old cheesy wooden box and silver face look of the 8 track player/receiver but shortly after hooking it up and enjoying the music, the audio quality started to wane and the old 8 track unit began to pour smoke out of the back. Disappointed, I unplugged the unit and later did a Craigslist search seeking out the cheesiest old school looking wooden box stereo receiver for a replacement to "Old Smokey". It's somewhat difficult locating something this old.

Last night after asking the local CB base station operators if any of them had a really old wooden box unit laying around that they might want to sell to me, one of the guys suggested I look at Salvation Army stores or perhaps Goodwill stores. "Good Idea" I thought. I went on an old school wooden box receiver pilgrimage last night, stopping at all the local thrift stores and finally I found the perfect unit for the detail shop.

It doesn't get any cheesier than this old school JC Penny "Hi-Fi" stereo receiver. I got the exact look I was going for, paid only $7 and it has a great sound too. Check this dinosaur out.

Used this old vintage receiver for 2 days when I heard a real loud POP!! I turned around to see what the ruckus was and a mushroom cloud of smoke was rising to the ceiling above the old receiver. I guess my use of vintage wooden box receivers is a thing of the past. Last thing I need is my shop burning to the ground just because I like the looks of the old dinosaur stereo equipment. Oh Well..

You really make things POP in your shop: paint, receivers...

Gawdddd, how much bad luck can one man take!? Sorry to hear, I too have a pretty old (prolly 80s) receiver in my garage. LOVE the old school stuff

No writeup, no before photos, just a quick description of what I did and a few crap quality after photos. And me saying I'm glad it's done.

Wash, clay, M-105 w/MF cutting discs on G110V2, wash, M-205 Flex 3401 w/finishing pad, wash with 1 ounce of degreaser added to car wash concentrate/water mix, dry using glass cleaner on entire car before applying Opti-Guard to paint, glass, (excluding windshield) trim and entire surface of the wheels. Took 4- eight hour days to finish. Happy customer and me happy to have a day off from all of it.

Why did it end up taking so long? Was the paint not cooperating?
