Two accidents in Two days

get an evo VIII or IX. could find one with 60-80k on it for mid teens. Just shop around.... as far as insurance goes, my 06 IX MR is like 53/month, which is like $8/month more than my honda odyssey. and yes, I have collision on both

As I contract for two big Evo shops in my state, I meet a lot of evo owners...and you my friend have to be in your 40's! #### $53 a month for full coverage is crazy! Runs around $250-300 a month for me. Also as someone stated below you any Evo 8/9 with moderatly high mileage is going to most likely have been abused. Those that have not been will pull a pretty penny as garage queens.

As a GTI owner, do yourself a favor and consider it. 60 less hp but better in every other area. Search Google and YouTube for the Mazdaspeed3 vs GTI. GTI wins every time.

I've thought very hard about it, 60HP is a LOT though, and I just can't get past it, considering the cost is almost the exact same.

If the GTI was like 2,000 less I would definitely get one instead. I understand the interior quality and fit and finish is better on the GTI but thats just not very important to me, POWAH is. :D

The GTI is a fantastic car I just cant justify the price.

with all due respect...MS3 FTW! yes, (i am biased)

the interior quality for the MS3 is actually very nice. (coming from an evo discussed earlier ...had both a IX and a X)

if you are interested in FWD, i can second the MS3 reco.

i had one from 12/08 to 11/10, put 21k on it and loved every second. with just an intake and race pipe, it was almost too powerful for FWD.

interior trim is VERY nice.

the latest gen MS3 with the tech package is quite a value. unfortunately you can't get it w/o navigation if you get the tech package, like the previous gen GT, but it doesn't matter - with everything it comes out to MSRP 27k...real market value is obv less.

GTI is way too overpriced if you want to match equipment with the MS3 and to be completely honest - and i've had several VW in my past (corrado, scirocco, two MKIV), the GTI is just not something i'd want to deal with day to day. i totally understand why owner satisfaction is so low with VW. anecdotal evidence of pleased owners is easy to find, but overall, surveys show people get pissed at their VW.

I completely understand. I almost got the MS3 to save some money but the overall ride was just more enjoyable in the GTI.

I think it's important to separate the non-German made VWs from the German made ones. My Mexican made Jetta was junk compared to the GTI.

Sorry about hijacking this thread.

the power is a factor, but go drive both before you decide. the feel of the GTI is better than the MS3 due to the higher quality fit and finish. I think the mazda is a great car, but mainly because of the engine. I am a hatchback fan, but have out grown any love for FWD after owning AWD and RWD. FWD will always feel like a neutered stallion.

I have driven the ms3 and love the straight line pull.... HATE tq steer and trying to power through a corner with FWD is no fun. For the money, I have to be honest, I doubt you will find better. Good friend of mine walked out with a brand new one for about 21..... how can you beet that?

edit:
1 more thing to consider is milage. I know the ms3 isn't known for exceptional milage
18/25 for the mazda <-from what I hear, this is a stretch
21/31 for the VW <- which may or may not be realistic

Zivman - you wrote... how can you beat that? oh you meant price.
and i said "he'll beat it with his ms3!"

i don't want to turn this into a vw vs. mazda argument.

i was just fooling with u

how can he beat getting a brand new MS3 for 21k out the door? oh, ya, you already said how -> using his MS3??????

nevermind ... i wrote that i didn't notice you meant price.

not looking to argue.

yes the vw is less $ than the ms3. that is a fact.

my MS3 with cobb intake and turboxs race pipe averaged a tick under 25mpg from new for the ~21k i had it. i had every single fuel receipt for the car saved in the center console. that is with no highway driving. the car was a nice weather only local drive car, many times garaged for months on end.

if you eeked up the GTI to MS3 power levels, you'd see comparable numbers, i'm sure.

I'm seeing around 25mpg with my stock GTI with no highway. I think APR claims a stage one chip increases hp by about 30 but increase mpg by 1 or 2.

As long as this thread is completely hijacked, let me add one more thing. The GTI steering wheel is the best. EVAR! I know you don't pick a car based on the steering wheel, but it is seriously my favorite part of the car. The seats are nice too. I turn 40 this year so my priorities might be a little different.

I'm very strongly considering a gently used WRX after test driving one. The GTI is a great car just not for me. Still need to test drive the MS3 though, gotta drive an hour and a half to get to a mazdaspeed authorized dealer though... Also considering a base model 2011 Mustang (305HP 31HWY) :O

My vote on a S2000. All you love about the Miata, but faster. Although the WRX is a fun car, + 4 doors.
