So i just bought a 6"in DA polisher. Now the question is what color pads do i use for ultimate compound, ultimate polish, and ultimate liquid wax. Since polish and wax dont need to much presure would it be fine to do these by hand?

cutting pads for ultimate compound, polishing pads for ultimate polish, finishing/waxing pads for ultimate wax

so for Lake Country 5.5 " flat pads, the orange light cutting pad, the white polishing pad, and the black finishing pads are popular and cheap ($35 for 6 pads)

Some will suggest that most DA polishers benefit from smaller pads

The idea is that because some DA's do not have a lot of power, the smaller pads produce less friction and have less mass for the polisher to overcome. This allows the pad to maintain rotation, which is critical to effective defect removal

If you would like to use smaller 5 1/2" pads instead of 6 1/2" pads; you will need to purchase a 5" backing plate

Another option is the 6" DA Microfiber Cutting Pads from Meguiar's

These can be used with your existing 6" BP

They work very well on all DA polishers, especially paired with Meguiar's D300 Compound

They are thin, cut effectively and are.machine washable (toss in with your MF's). Also inexpensive as they come in a 2-pack.

Well the color of the pads varies by brand of pads, and even the line of pads. Personally I have stuck with Lake Country pads for most of my detailing career other than microfiber or wool pads.

I would suggest checking out the LC Hyrbid pads (orange for compound, white for finishing). I use them currently on both my Flex and GG 6" polishers and have had great success with both! Definitely check out and read reviews of different pads though. The new meguiars pads are apparently getting pretty good reviews!

You may need a different backing plate to accommodate different size pads. I would suggest starting with a smaller pad, 5.5-6" which will help keep the pad spinning and help you get the hang of using the machine!

The finishing waxes and sealants can absolutely be applied by hand. It will take longer but it's all preference. I apply mine by hand and by machine. Just depends on the consistency of the product and the car I'm working on.

Meguiars MF and 5" foam discs, without a doubt!!

I love the Hex Logic line.

Green - Compound

Blue - Polish

Red - Wax.

I actually like all pads from all makers. I'm becoming kind of a pad junkie, but those are my favorites.

Green for compounding? That's a polishing pad. You could use green with a compound, but it's not going to give you nearly the cut you might need. Yellow and orange would be more of a compound pad.
