Type of wheels and sealant?

My new Yukon says that the wheels are chrome, as opposed to other gmc cars that do list as chrome-clad. How can I know for sure that they are actually chrome? I plan on having them taken off and coated but that probably won't be until spring. Until then I would like to decontaminate and seal with something easy. I see that Iron x says not to use on chrome, what are my options here? If I'm looking to carry me a few months would Hydro2 be a good option for a quick and easy fix?

Can you get a magnet to stick on them? I dunno if this is definite proof, but they stuck on mine. The same magnet won't stick on my bumper trim which is plastic chrome.

I will have to try that this evening. I'm working under the assumption that they are since some cars do list as chrome clad and some list as chrome.
