Hi guys,

I am fairly new to detailing, with but a few PC7424XP uses. Today I go to use an Orange LC CCS Smart pad for MAYBE the third time, and as I fire up the PC(speed 4) the pad separates between the foam and the loop part of the Velcro and goes flying. :buffing:

Just checking to see if 2-3 uses is the typical use cycle of these pads, or if I had a dud or something. FWIW These pads are washed after each use with the XMT360 pad cleaner.

thanks in advance :dblthumb2:

I don't think it is typical but not out of the realm of possible. My 5.5" have had other issues but have not delaminated. However, my 4" hi gloss CCS pad delaminated yesterday after 3 uses by hand.

How are you drying your pads? The only time I've had a pad separate was when I left a pad drying, face up, on a counter and the water that was left in the pad basically sat on the velcro face of the pad, causing it to separate.

I had yet to have a pad failure and have used a few of my Orange pads at least 6 times or more.

me too. The LC flats are awesome which is why I can't wait for the new hybrid pads to come out. If they improved on the flats then I'm all over them.

do you have the washer installed on your backing plate? If not, you could have heat buildup which is not good for either the bp or the pad

:iagree:

I have several LC pads that are 8-9 monthes old and have dozen's of uses on them, and have no problem with them. I have somewhere in the area of 30-35 pads that are rotated through use daily,at the end of use they are put in a bucket of APC to soak until the next day when they are washed and dryed.

If you are experiencing delamination after only a couple of uses you might want to look at how much chemical you are putting on them. over saturating them and heat build up from higher speed use will cause the adhesive to break down.

also starting your machine at speed 4 with no pressure on the pad will cause it to seperate from the backing plate. if your backing plate is new and has enough grip yet that could be enough to tear the backing off the pad.

just food for thought

I don't know about the OP but mine are dried face down velcro up on a drying rack and the pad in question has only been used 3 times for paste wax. It came apart as I was hand washing it. Since I only use it by hand and my other one is still good I am going to assume it is a fluke.

I do not know if it makes a difference but I have only had issues with the hi-gloss ccs pads. my regular ones have held up to the same use ofr over a year now.

Mine did the same thing the other day. Orange pad, never washed it pulled it off the backing plate 2 times...I was planning on calling AG soon.

Strange... same thing happened to me yesterday. Orange lc pad that came with my 3401. I have used it once. Put on today and it's 75% separated.

Going to try a thin application of gorilla glue and see how it goes.

i have a orange and white 5.5" flat with about 3 buffing cycles on it and the loop is delaminating, the glue is still on the foam of the pad...

I glued mine but availed nothing.

Obviously there is a problem with the Orange pads...

I'll try the defunct pad on a panel tomorrow to see how the gorilla glue holds up.

Only problem I've had with LC pads was an orange 6" Kompressor which only lasted 3 wash cycles before delaminating. All the ccs pads are going strong after more than a dozen cycles.

Weird. I've used the LC orange pads(flat pad) on several full corrections and they are still going strong.

I usually spray them down with some type of degreaser (my go-to at the moment is the ZEP purple). Spray them down generously and let them soak for about a minute. Then rinse off with warm water. Repeat once or twice if necessary and let them dry on a rack. I've cleaned them many times "on the fly" with a brush" and it did no damage either.

If it's a bad batch then peps should be reimbursed.
