So my business is just about to get off the ground. Got the website done, loaded up on supplies, got my initial target areas, got my EIN, and logo and marketing in the works. So today i go down to get my DBA as well as my city/state license. First i went to the county clerk (wrong place) then i go to city hall (wrong place) walk across the street and they tell me first i need to go to the city annex. Fair enough should have done my research first. But when i get there i tell the woman ill be filling as a sole proprietor and she starts going over all the licensing fees. $200 for State $25 for city and $79 for my DBA. Im just starting out my current job put me on leave for financial reasons and im looking for a new place. I dont have that type of money up front at the moment. Every dime i spend puts me a dime closer to the poor house. But heres the thing as most of you know. With out a state license i cant get a city license with out a city license i cant get a dba without a dba i cant open a company bank account without a company bank account i cant take checks in the companys name and i cant get a "square" card reader with out a square card reader i cant take the almighty credit card. So you see how this all plays out.

My question to you guys is this. Is there another way to skin this cat? Some type of temporary loop hole? What are the repercussions if i take this off the ground and i dont have all my licenses? Is there a temporary alternative to a business license so i can at least get the bank account open? Any help or resorses would be greatly appreciated. Also im in Washoe county Nevada between carson city and reno

Thanks guys :xyxthumbs:

***EDIT***

Legal zoom will allow me to get my DBA im assuming without a license for $99. Now say i do that would that be fine for now and then when i start making money get my license or does it not work that way?

Would an LLC be safer from a liability perspective? An LLC is easy to get online in Florida.

I think to register a business with a LLC is more expensive out here.

Go LLC, that's what I did for my photography business. I did it all on the state website. Took less than 15 minutes and had everything finished. This is Wisconsin, can't comment on other states procedures.

Keep in mind, LLC means your ass is protected should someone take legal action. All your personal finances are safe. Hence the "Limited Liability" ;)

If you feel unsure, pay an attorney to set it up for you, but its all super simple.

LLC would be a much better route. This will save you in the future when a economic crash happens.....may god forbid but if your company goes belly up, debtors cannot come after you. Some airlines go in that route in which protects the owners if some go out of the market.

if you use legal zoom there are codes like " rogan" that will get you 10 % off.

If you don't have enough to do all the licensing stuff here's what you can do.
Just set up your square to your regular bank account and when you have more money set everything up and transfer it over. You won't be able to take checks and most people understand that, you will also not be able to set up any commercial accounts but oh well. Once you have everything in place just transfer it over, shouldn't be a big deal

If you are a new business and people know this there shouldn't be a problem getting them to write the check in your name. Most of my customers write them in my name anyway but they all go to the same account. And Square shouldn't be a problem... you can route it to any account you want.

My wife had no problem opening a dba account in her name dba ...

She isn't licensed or anything. She has square and boom right into her account.

Well i figured it out. I filed everything online and i being as my business is conducted at home i filed it as home based which is exempt from all fees. Yeah my services will be out side of my home at others homes in fact but i look at it this way. My parents own a multi million dollar company that certifies the crane operators throughout the United States. Their business is conducted at home but their instructors travel all over the US to certify these crane operators. They have a corporate attorney that re filed all their business licenses and such since they just relocated their business to NV from CA. They qualified as a home based business so i figured a detailing business that is ran out of a house but services are at other locations would fall under a home based business as well. So we will see how it goes. Thanks for the help guys :)
