UH-OOOH...Did I Do That?

I don't use a power washer primarily because the pressure can put water where it doesn't belong. Especially with older cars. This kind of paint damage is another reason.

more like Dr. ColorRoller

If a pressure washer below 2500psi knocks paint off a care then it shouldn't be there in the first place. That's like tissue paper thin.

I'd be handicapped without my pressure washers. IIRC, this particular PW dials down to 300 psi...I forget. Only had it less than 2 years.

Since blinging out Ol Blue, I have a '58 Olds, and two 80's models Jags that are SS, and a 70's model Bug in BC/CC as referrals to be done as soon as the wasps and hornets bed down.

Neither of these will see a hose pipe...and I detest RW's.

Hi VT...

Gotta love the older Camaros and the Car Guys that own them!
American muscle always made for a FUN date night. (Still does)

Great to hear that this icon gets a facelift/restored...
Many, instead, wind-up having a date with a crusher.

Thanks for this thread VT...
Stirred-up some fond memories...(except for 'Nam).
Have to start working on The Good Wife's '76 Camaro pretty soon.

:)

Bob

Nice project VT!

There's a hand here in Union County that's top notch but he is not cheap, and always booked.

I also have a good friend in N.Y. That is really good and could be convinced to come down for the spray.

I have axcess to a booth.

Anyways if ya need some help let me know, look forward to viewing the progress.

If this isn’t the first time blowing off paint with your pressure washer and as you say it won't be the last time, I'd suggest a more cautious approach as this has never happened to me.

The only time I use a pressure washer is after hunting season to remove mud.

I was in Whiteville yesterday VT :dblthumb2:

What a fun project! Can't believe most of us posting got sucked in by the paint flaking off from the pw; and some still posting. LOL
I will be subscribing to the thread!

I had a good friend with a restored '76. Heard recently that he lost the car in the divorce settlement. My 23 yr old son has an '84 IROC Z that he is working on.

Uncle B. has two 40 something sons with no interest in old cars. My elder cousin has first dibs on the '67 when Uncle meets St. Peter. But that side of the family has great genes. B's older brother is still driving at 94 years of age.

If you are inclined, post a photo of the '76 from its glory days.
Thanks for posting, Bob :dblthumb2:

Very kind of you Tim. Thanks for posting :dblthumb2:
B. is dead set on his shop list. He has been planning for this event since before he retired. Gonna start in the A.M. tearing out the rest of the interior and ordering the sheet metal. We are looking at 9 months if he goes the Dallas, N.C. route. If he goes with the Chester shop, then it will not be the full restore at this point that he envisions.

I've worked on every type of vehicle including dump trucks, T2 Ingersol-Rand drill rigs, Schramms, pans, loaders, bull dozers...you name it. If I drive it, or operate it, it will be shiny. I've peeled paint off towers, masts, frame rails, cement truck mixers, engines, gear housings, reservoir tanks, etc...kinda goes with the territory. But I have never damaged a paying customers paint with the exception of being set up by the body shop guys in Vegas and I burned a shiny on a high end RV using the rotary.

The only time I use a pressure washer is after hunting season to remove mud.

Hope that you kept it under 35 this time around. ;)
My Whiteville friends/family moved to Columbia some time ago. Haven't spoken with them since moving to Md. in '11.

I had some of that Reservoir mud on my pristine 08 FJ...had that vehicle 2 years in the Mojave and never had it that filthy.

What a fun project! Can't believe most of us posting got sucked in by the paint flaking off from the pw; and some still posting. LOL

Thanks for posting hand:dblthumb2:.
Those that know me on these forums know that my detailing for profit days are coming to an end. I've been under the radar/off the grid for several years. I've paid some bills, met some good people, and formed bonds that I certainly would not have made. But time marches on and I need to get back to the lifestyle that I left behind in '04. The Maryland suburbs are a good demographic for maintenance detailing...if I were younger, but its not where I want to spend the remainder of my time on this spinning rock. I'm just a broken down saddle tramp with a zest for living right.

I plan to post photos in the album over the coming days and months. Hopefully I can do a thread similar to Tuscarora Daves Misc. thread.

What all are you having done to it?

Just a simple resto along these lines. DD for a retiree. He is a gearhead though, and Ol' Blue lacks the kind of power that he and his buds are known for.
The original color is a plum(?, dark plum).

Original color was a dark plum...don't know the name yet but will be sprayed this spring.

90% or so of the sheetmetal has been ordered. Shipping out on the 14th.

Wow, I've never seen damage like that from a power washer. That's definitely going to make me rethink using a power washer in the future. Was this your own car or a clients?

^My thoughts exactly

Bawwaaahhhhaaaaa!!!!! Great bait and switch my friend...absolutely love that. As soon as I seen this thread I knew you'd get some to bite...and quite hard I might add. LOL!!!!

Hi Bill!

Hi molina67! Thanks for posting :p

We're having a blast for sure...lol.
I'm not going to see this project through
Plans that I made in June are coming to fruition. This old saddle tramp is hitting the open road the first week of December. Got the call today.
