Ultimate Detailing Facility,need help

MY thoughts also...I used to work for the before mentioned and this was My 2nd most concern....I would like to provide a "home away from home" feeling.

Clients/customers have to feel that they are #1 no matter what....and an area that they can wait and have a cup of coffee or whatever is really important.

Free WiFi, coffee, water ,softdrinks etc is on my radar....I want ALL customers to feel like family!

No better example for the best customer service than right here at Autogeek! :dblthumb2:

:iagree: When I started looking into building a facility, I ended up estimating for about twice that much space. Designed in a modular fashion, it could be built out in phases when the funding and justification for expenditures becomes available.

If the goal is to cater to high end automobiles and have a "state of the art" secure facility, the ability to have a semi drive in would be essential as potential clients may have their vehicles shipped to the shop in enclosed haulers. Being able to pull in and unload behind closed doors is an added bonus for collectors who might not want their vehicles seen going in and out of the shop. :props:

Charlie My thoughts also.......If I can provide a servive to the delivery vehical as well I'm all for it! I'm looking at all options at this point! I just want to be able to cater to all walks of life...

Awesome opportunity Tim! My first thought was to make it as Eco-friendly as possible, and trying for a LEED certified building. I am thinking sky lights and/or solar tubes, solar/PV panel system, possibly a wind turbine, water rec./filtration of course, all VOC compliant building supplies/detailing products, and Energy Star/efficient appliances/equipment. You can really set an example and take advantage of tax breaks and grants by becoming a green business.
I would look at some of the stuff that Swiss Vax has in their facilities as well. Some very cool equipment and appears Eco-friendly. I think having the bays/spaces set up so that vehicles flow through easily and efficiently will help as well.
I would love to relocate to N.C. for an opportunity to help out a fellow AutoGeeker get a business/facility up and running.
Can't wait to see how things start coming together for you and your partner with this.:)

Just be careful with that.... remember that the equipment and workflow requirements of a volume detail shop are different than those of a shop doing high-end reconditioning. You're definitely going to want to focus on a certain market at least to start with, and expand from there once you're established with positive cash-flow.

Tim...this sounds very exciting. When...not if...when you get this place up and running I'd like to be one of your first customers. As far as the suggestions go, I'll leave that up to the pro's. I'll see if I can come up with anything...*putting thinking cap on*

when i work as a plumber we usualy incorparate a sand trap system for the inderect waste of water in which your architect is probably conidering, but definetly check with your local plumbing inspector

Anyone will be impressed with a clean, organized, and well lit establishments. What I want to see in a detailing facility? A separate wash bay, a storage room, a lounge, a controlled room for application of coatings, an exhibition room for the cars that are ready to be picked up, shelves and cabinets, and lifts, to name a few.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this. I would want no trip hazards. Not only for safety but to keep the facility clean looking. I would have a power cords from each detailing bay be retractable from ceiling. Pull off just what you want and when done it retracts on its own. Also maybe bays that lead to other bays. A couple washing/claying bay that leads into the main detailing bays or whatever.

Any updates on this venture Tim?

Hey Shane.......we are still talking about this...there seems to be some politics involved in the zoning of the building....but we haven't given up yet!

The process to change the zoning for what we want to do will take some time.....then plans have to drawn for the changes....submitted for county review and back and fourth with what the county, city, fire wants us to do and so on......and then we have enviromental issues to deal with ugh!

I'm still working at home all I can...... My soon to be Partner is working hard at it plus at his own firm...so we have to play the game!

We both have some real good Ideas as to services and so on.The more we research the more Ideas we get.

Hopefully we will be able to start contracts soon!
