I was given the “Ultimate Detailing Machine 1000” as a gift just last year and it gave out after many uses. I took it apart and noticed that the brushes needed replacing. I do a Google search for “Armature Brushes” and lots of “Porter-Cable” replacement brushes come up, but nothing as far as the correct brushes for the UDM.

I already have the Porter Cable 7424 XP for a back up, so it looks like I will be purchasing an additional PC only because I won’t have to spend hours of valuable time searching for dead ends. What happens if something else broke in the UDM and I had to get parts. I have worked on many types of machinery (small and large) so servicing something myself is generally a no brainer, that is unless parts are unavailable like they’re for the UDM.

Food for thought; before making a purchase on any type of equipment, no matter how convincing the sales pitch looks, research the product parts availability before you buy. Right now this UDM is nothing more than a disposable diaper sitting in my storage collecting dust.

Why wont the PCXP brushes work? Have you taken your PCXP apart and directly compared the two? The UDM has always been just a badged PC and use the same parts.

I'm sorry, that's not true. The original UDM was a discrete machine, but after the first year, mfg. issues caused the UDM to turn into a PC clone.

I've never seen the original machine :dunno: only the rebadged PC and PCXP models being sold, but to the OP, since he got it last year I highly doubt he has the original one.

Yeah...except the name of the original one was "UDM 1000" and he says the PC brushes won't fit. And if the brushes don't fit...you must acquit.

Its a bit strange for me. I've come across these three sites all stating they are the "UDM 1000" and they are all different pictures. Perhaps the OP and fill us in on which model he has.

Well, you've hit all 3 there. The original, the PC clone, and the PCXP clone. The original is on the AG page. That was the one developed by David B. that had a lot of similarities to the G110v1 (including all the switch and wiring problems).

I see what you did there. That's hilarious!! :dblthumb2:

OK, this is the deal... There is no model # on this machine and when I got it there was no owner's manual included. Whenever I do a search the only thing that comes up is the 1000 model. I am unaware of other models and the only thing this unit has is a label "Ultimate Detailing Machine".

The UDM was sold by Perfect Shine.

Lynn Matthews (member here I think) used to work there so maybe she has a clue on options since I know she handled a lot of warranty returns. Now maybe Autopia-car care.com may also be involved too.

OP: Can you throw use some pics? Perhaps of the worn out brushes too? It's usually not too hard to find none-oem brushes that will fit motors from power tools this size.

I too started out with the Ultimate Detailing Machine purchased 3 years ago here from AutoGeek. Mine failed (brushes wore out) after about 1 year of moderate use. I had to contact PerfectShine.com and was able to get 5 replacement sets sent to me FREE. Guess what else? I just called the number (1-877-855-3125) and apparently they may have been bought out by AUTOPIA because I called to confirm they are still in business before posting the number and it was an Autopia automated system. So do as I did 2 years ago, call and explain that the brushes have worn out and ask for a few additional sets also because out of 3 years of light use, worn out brushes seems to be the only issue I've had with mine. I've upgraded to the Griots but I still use my UDM for 4" pads. It should work out for you.
