Ultra Soft Clear Coat?! Tips Tricks?!

I'm tempted to actually suggest a coating to the customer. However, he's selling the car. Which is why I'm doing all this work right now. I don't know if he's going to want to dump the extra money for a coating on the car too.

The paint is not flawless as it should be you'd think after a full frame off restoration. There are fish eyes all over the car, which he was hoping I could correct. Which obviously I'm not a body man, so I won't be touching.

I really spent 3 hours yesterday trying working with different products, pads, wiping techniques, different MF's, and I'm totally at a loss. And it's driving me absolutely nuts. This car is beautiful and I want to make the paint as perfect as I can. These little scratches are eating away at me. I actually had dreams about them last night! Sad I know! I even dream of detailing!

So, you have those dreams too... (lol) Just curious what would happen if you took a finishing pad to it with something like 105 and removed it instantly in a small section to see what it looks like? I did a black 80 something Vette that was a repaint and was not going aggressive enough and had thought they were reappearing but I think the oils in the polish were hiding them.

Well I personally have no experience with it, just read the description on the website. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

I'll be placing an order today, so I'll throw that in anyway. Going to have to have it shipped up over night though...ugh...good old freight charges! lol.
If that is all you are ordering I'd be more than happy to send some your way.

I appreciate the offer, but I actually have several things I need to order. So, I'm just going to throw it in there while I'm shopping. I was going to wait to see what the new BOGO but need to run some errands and want to ensure my order gets here asap.

I didn't think to try it, however I'm going to think that it's going to leave the fine scratches when I remove it just like the other products.

Ok cool. Good luck, and make sure to let us know how it turns out!!:xyxthumbs:

I just placed my order and had to pay $66 to have it shipped here over night. I really wish we had a place around me that I could just go pick up products I need.

Anyway I'll be doing a full write up on this car when I'm finally finished. God knows when that will be. I am going back Tuesday to see how much I can get done. Hopefully will get everything done that day, but we'll see.

Thanks again!

Jason if you have a MF towel without the silk border give it a try. I know it sounds funny but those borders leave marring in the super soft paint on my car.

Chemical Guys Ez Creme Glaze, works great for very very soft paints like that.

This is an old trick used in the collision repair industry for dealing with soft paints after a respray that need work. Run the coldest water you can get over it for a few minutes then wipe it off. It should help temporarily harden the paint enough so you wont put scratches in it plus it give added lubrication from the water.

Anyway, now I'm having the issue that when I remove the PO85rd, I'm putting slight scratches back into the paint when I wipe. I'm using the Sasquatch MF's from CG which are the softest MF's I have. Even being very gentle and not putting any pressure down they are still leaving slight marks. It's driving me absolutely insane.

I've tried using some ONR diluted to quick detailer to assist in removing the product, but even that isn't working.

I battled that problem with the super-soft clear on Harley's Vivid Black. Sounds like you've got finishing figured out... I had good luck with 105 on a finishing pad or 205 on a firm cuttting pad. Go figure.

As for the marring during wipe off, anything I used with any nap at all, regardless of how soft or plush, left marks. Best I came up with was the slickest QD I could find and a WW.... copious amounts of FK425 and a Cobra WW worked for me. Until I walked by it or breathed on it again.

I'm in the middle of this job now. Well I'm using the poliseal right now and it's amazing stuff!

Yea unfortunately the cars battery is dead and I can't pull it out of the garage for full sun pics.
