Up Close & Personal: Detailer's Paint Coating

So I just purchased some Duragloss 105, 601 and AW. Then I stumbled on this thread. I was going to try the combination out for a solid winter prep, and then wondered to myself whether this coating would do the same job and possibly better. Would there be any reason to use a combo like D601/105/AW on top of a coating like this? Or would the added benefit of having another layer only be marginal compared to the protection provided by the DP coating? I'd hate to apply a coating like this and then spend the time applying D601/105/AW if there's really no point.

Also how would you rate/compare the DP coating to others such as opti-coat, vx1, etc. Better, same?

If you're going to do a coating just do a coating.

Also, as far as comparisons prob way to early for real world usage, it just hit people hands last week :)

I'm certainly no authority on the use of this product, I have found there is a bit of a learning curve to it, and for my first time use, I don't think I did that bad at all. About the worst I think I have done, is a slight over-application, and the paint appears no worse for such, after a gentle wiping, the paint's surface was perfectly even, not a streak, cloud, smear, etc to be seen. The final finish was flawless.

And as I've previously said, this coating is super slick.

I would guess, that like some other coatings, and contrary to what I've said earlier, I would assume a topper of some form could be used if desired to perhaps add depth, and compliment the product's durability, provided that particular topping product has no abrasives, or cleaners in them. Or to perhaps eliminate water spotting, films, etc after a wash.

Like CarPro CQuartz, where a product such as their "Reload" Spray can be used, I would assume such similar products could be used on top of the Detailer's Coating if desired.

One could probably use any WOWA type clear Sealant available here, as they have no cleaning abilities, Reload, detailing sprays, DG Aquawax, WOWA's and of the fine Pastes available, and I would again assume no harm with topping this coating with WG Fuzion, Pinnacle Souveran, Collinite, etc etc etc, as long as there's no cleaners, detergents, abrasives in them. The only unknown I'm unsure of, is many liquid-paste waxes, and WOWA's do have a solvent in them, usually some form of petro-chemical.

The only problem I might foresee, is then at some future point, wishing to re-apply the Detailer's Coating, you would no doubt have to use a stripping product, such as the Cleaner they specifically make to prep the surface for this particular Coating.

I'm sure in time, the boys and girls here, for how inventive, and adventurous they are will have some more very interesting info-tips on this product to come!

Thanks for the input. Reason I asked is because I finally thought I had figured out what exact combination of products I wanted to use, especially to prep the car for winter. Only to dismay, I overlooked a particular product, or in this case product category you could say. Nevertheless, if I do choose to go the route of DP Paint Coating as my LSP for winter prep, I'd only be losing out on about 20-30 dollars of D601/105/AW, oh well.

If this product needed to be removed, what would be the best way to do so ?

I read somewhere, here or Autopia, a review, and comments of this product.

Too hard to search sometimes, with all the sub topics, but the poster commented about two of his personally thought of aids-tricks with this product.

One, very good lighting. Well, I seriously pondered this advice, and I think he's right 100%. That this product, which virtually goes on invisible will need these aids to help you with application.

I didn't think of this, yet have some fair lighting on hand that might have aided myself with application.

Two, temperatures. Well, I applied in the shade, but the ambient temps were probably 94 -96 degrees in the shade. This means my paint was at least at these temps. Are these temps optimal for application? Perhaps not. And under a carport no less, where the vehicle is getting hit with reflective light, and heat from all sides.

I'll work my best to find some help, tips, and advice if I have wome worthy info to share in the future.

Otherwise, I think this product has some very good potential.

May have been my review... DP Paint Coating Review

I would definitely think that temps like that would make the product flash probably too fast to be able to keep track of where it is being applied and when you need more product. Good lighting would go a long way to help see where the product is going, but I think you would use much more product just because it would flash off so fast.

I can't say with 100% certainty that this would be the case. I have been lucky that both times I worked with the coating it was low-mid 70's.

Safe for rubber and plastic trim? Or is tape
necessary? If not, any other products with this flexibility?

I used the paint coating today on my truck. Prep went as follows, Wash, clay, prep polish and then coating. Truck looked great after I was done, but just a few points with regards to the application process.

I noticed right away that when I sprayed the product on the paint that it flashes almost instantaneously. I found my self rushing to get it spread quickly over a decent amount of area (panel) before it completely dried. I have seen the recommendations for 2 sprays per panel ala a fender, door with up to 4 for a hood. Being this is a full sized pickup I may have cheated a few times as the panels are large. :o This stuff dries so fast that one or two swipes and you feel like your dry wiping the paint.

When the foam pad starts to drag and appears no product is left to wipe in, is it time for another spray or is product still being spread?

FYI, This is my first attempt with a WOWA product.

I cannot see how 4 oz. Would last more than 2-3 SUV's.......

Am I right in thinking this?

I think it does, just try being stingy with the product, it is a little tricky, like you're spreading an invisible product. But apparently, it is there for a little bit longer than when you think it is gone.

Ugh, I wanna buy this since it's on sale but not if it only lasts 1 year. I'd rather spend that on a sealant and get twice 4x as much.

I felt the same dilemma earlier.

That's why I stuck with WGDGPS..... and at 24.99 it is well worth it imo.

I have used the free sample of it and a little gives a loooong way

Tough decisions. I figure if it would last 2 years it would be worth it but I don't see that happening. I'm thinking of trying the dp sealant
