they have blood in a blood bank but id rather have my blood or one of you a/g guys . your family to me .

Tom -

I've been praying for little Tommy and your family, and I really see where you are coming from with wanting to use your blood or a member's, but in my opinion, use whatever method which will get the blood to little Tommy the quickest. At the end of the day when he recovers, he really is not going to care where the blood came from, just the fact that his parents love him dearly and never gave up on him!

Good luck and God Bless
M

Tom - The kids, my wife and I pray every night for you and your family. If I said "I know what you're going through", I'd be lying. When my twins were born the 2nd one out had the cord around the neck and some fluid in the lungs etc...I was scared standing there watching nurses run a tube into his throat and seeing he was purple and no crying. Meanwhile, his brother laying on the other table crying normally. Hang in there!

From information on the Mayo Clinic website "Ideally, blood transfusions are done with donated blood that's an exact match for type and Rh factor. Even then, small samples of the recipient's and donor's blood are mixed to check compatibility in a process known as crossmatching. In an emergency, however, type O negative red blood cells may be given to anyone — especially if the situation is life-threatening or the matching blood type is in short supply."

Tom, I'm O negative. Again, let me know if I can help. Good Luck!

Tom if there is anyway I can help let me know he can have all the blood I can give if that would help. Is there a way I can donate here is NC and they can deliver to NJ?
Im off today, wife goes for an MRI, I will go today and donate.

I think this brings to light that it is always great to donate blood no matter what state you are in. If it's not one of our "family" you are helping out, you might be helping out your neighbors son or daughter. I come from a long line of nurses in my family and my whole family donates regularly, especially my brother. The blood bank will actually call him for his blood, I guess his is more special then mine!
Point is, if you can't directly help Tom, it's always good to help another. You just don't know when you might be the one waiting on someone to donate so you will get the blood you need.
Hang in Tom!:grouphug:

Tom,
Prayers are coming your was from Massachusettes !!!!!!
He will be well soon..
God Bless
Glenn

Hi Tom...love and prayers to your family. I have given thousands of blood transfusions in my 23 years as an ICU nurse. All the banked blood is tested and readily available. It would take days to have your blood tested and readied for transfusion. And, you need your strength to help your family get through this. Take the banked blood for Tom Jr. It is safe! He will be able to deliver oxygen to his little body better when he has more blood cells in him to carry the oxygen. Keep us updated on his progress and send me a PM if you need any help with medical interpretation. I don't specialize in neonatal medicine but I have friends that do!

thank you very much.. this is all new to us we dont know anything about this . but lookslike were learning fast...

what the told us at the hospital is even if i have the same blood type i may not be a capatable donor because they say that 50 percent of the population carried this viris. not sure what its called but its only screened for nic u babies . so i might have it or not ..

Still praying for little Tommy. Please keep us updated with what is going on. Stay strong.

1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.

2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
You are my God; save your servant
who trusts in you.

3 Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I call to you all day long.

4 Bring joy to your servant,
for to you, O Lord,
I lift up my soul.

5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord,
abounding in love to all who call to you.

6 Hear my prayer, O LORD;
listen to my cry for mercy.

7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you,
for you will answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.

9 All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, O Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.

10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.

13 For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths of the grave. [a]

14 The arrogant are attacking me, O God;
a band of ruthless men seeks my life—
men without regard for you.

15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
grant your strength to your servant
and save the son of your maidservant.

17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

May God bless your family and put His protecting hand over each one of you, and each nurse and doctor that is caring for Little Tom that they may have the guidance needed to bring health back to him. He will do good, because He is merciful and His love unfailing.

Tom, I have been following your story and with twin God daughters that went through some of the same challenges, I have a sense of the pain and helpness that you are feeling. From the bottom of my heart I truly wish your family the best. Please keep your head up, know that God is in control, and you have a lot of people praying hard for things to get better for you'll.
