The retaliation could be fierce. Especially if we have the body.

I will give the President this, I am glad he did not pull us out of the war in Afghanistan and we now have this man dead. My fellow soldiers did not die in vain, and for nothing. You will never be forgotten brothers. My cousin did not lose his legs for no reason. My friends were not blown up for us to only say forget it and go home, and I did not spend years away from my family and friends for "oil".

So thank you Mr President for allowing us to do our job. Now let us finish.

For those on the far left who feel we should have pulled out, and for those who I se with the "endless war, end this war" bumper stickers, I hope you are not celebrating with the rest of us.
:iagree:

I'm sure Obama wanted to wait so he could interrupt Trump.

Any truth to the rumor that Trump is demanding to see the death certificate?

Wish I could claim credit for that line, but my wife found it on twitter.

Well said!

if that makes you feel better, then so be it. but our soldiers need to be here, not in that damned desert. that sand has been stained with "martyr" blood for THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of years. there is no need to send tens of thousands of soldiers over and over to find one man, hence why i feel your relief is misguided. that is not the reason you or anyone you know were there, to find bin laden or to really try to stop any sort of movement. never forget, and it plays over and over throughout history...take Isreal chasing BSO after Munich as the perfect example. Eventually Israel realized that once you kill one leader, there are exponentially more right behind him that are THAT much crazier who give even less of a crap about self-preservation. if you insist on putting some sort of partisan label on me, i'm far from "the left", in fact i'm a libertarian realist who understands our little couple hundred year old country won't stop something in an area that has existed for millenia. it is an absolute SIN that our borders are under constant breach every single day while our sons and daughters are walking around in the damned desert with targets on their backs.

on a lighter note...

But it is not about just killing one man. While we are there we are disrupting their operations (planning, training, etc..). Do you really think there would be fewer attacks on the US if we pulled out and allowed them to plan & train unimpeded?

I agree fully!! :dblthumb2:

The biggest problem I see with today's military is they're hands are bound with too much red tape and politics. If we let them do what they do best this would have been over by now.

Give the enemy every opportunity to give his life for his country..

The United states Armed forces exist to defend this nation and to ensure our way of life. By design they are not a police force that goes door to door on some meet and greet mission to pacify the liberal left and the world at large.

We are where we are in time because of physiological and fundamental indifferences. If someone a mile away from where you live was opening threatening to kill you and your family would you wait for them to be at your front door? Preemptive strike, only the strong survive.

On August 6, 1945, first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. President Truman gave the order and in my opinion his goals were two fold; To end Japan's aggression and retaliation for the bombing of Pearl Harbor and to open the eyes of every world leader.

The dropping of these bombs sent a clear message to the entire world that the enough is enough and this is where it stops. Furthermore, I believe that those bombs had actually brought to an early end WWll and saved countless lives globally.

The United States without question has the absolute best Military on the planet. The United States also possesses the best and most sophisticated military technology which should be used before one boot hits the ground.

If we have these weapons at our disposal and refuse to use them then why have them at all..

I'm glad that Osama is out of the picture. I'm not going to go cheering in the streets, that's what they do in the terrorist countries.

I doubt it will end the war, as now the terrorists will want retribution. However, with the mastermind gone, we may have a better chance to get more of them. I just don't have a lot of faith or trust in the politicians.

I believe we still have a ways to go in Afghanistan, but it should not have taken 10 years to get this far.

Our Military is the BEST in the world, but because we are worried about our world image we had to play by certain rules. Rules no other country plays by. Rules so strict that they have probably cost the lives of our soldiers on some occasions.
But enough about my conspiracy mumbo-jumbo; the man is dead. Now we have to focus on defeating the rest of the terrorist leadership, and disband the followers. But that is just my two cents.

I am not a member of the military so my "say-so" carries no political or social clout. I do not wish any member of this country to his/her death under any circumstance. But if the day were to come when the country is under an impending threat and I must join the military, I will do so to preserve what I had (and I'd only hope that others would do the same, even the anti-military types). I think any right-minded individual would rather fight and die for freedom than live a life of oppression, squalor and hopelessness, with no authority over the future.

Well said, Bobby G! I agree.

I took forever writing my comment, and the read yours.
Glad to see several of us share the same positive view of our military.

Builthatch,

Condescending much? Maybe you were not meaning to be that way, but you sure came across that way.

Anyway, on to your statements. I do not need to "tell myself" anything to make myself feel better. I believe in what I do, and am proud of what I do. Tell me, why did we go to Afghanistan originally? It was to find those who planned the attacks, and eliminate them. While I do not feel the job is done, this was a great moral victory for our nation, and our men and women in uniform. Much is still left to do. We understand that.

I respect your opinion that you feel we need to end this war. All of us fitting feel the same way. However most of us feel pulling out prematurely is not the answer. Why can you not seem to respect that opinion?

As for labeling you "far left". I never did that. You assumed that I spoke of you.

My relief is not misguided as you say. I am not relieved. I know that much more work has to be done, and that the snakes head that was cut off was from the head of Medusa. Their are many more snakes all over that head. This however was a great moral and symbolic victory. My relief comes from the fact that our President, once in office, learned more about the situation. He learned why he could not just pull us out, and that we had more to do.

Have a great day.
