Applying the coating on a new black Denali today and it just wasn't working correctly. Garage temp was 65, I applied the coating a section at a time. I waiting for about a min or so like instructions say and go to buff off. The product just seemed to be smearing while the rag was catching. I searched on my phone and looked. Tried another method. I applied and immediately buffed off. A littl better but still horrible under light.

I than grabbed my essence and re polished the panels that smeared to get to finish I was happy with. Luckily I still had some Americoat on hand and used that. That applie and buffed off perfectly.

Thoughts? Bad batch of CQUK?

This truck almost got the best of me today. Nothing worse than spending hours polishing and messing it up and having to redo it.

Thanks.

Wash and dry vehicle. Use CarPro Iron X to decontaminate the paint.
Remove any polishing oils with CarPro Eraser.
Apply Cquartz UK Edition with the supplied applicator.
Spread Cquartz UK Edition in a criss-cross or circular motion until surface feels dry.
Buff off using a CarPro Suede Microfiber Cloth.
Use CarPro Reload after 30 minutes to prevent water spotting during dry time.
Full hardness is achieved in 24 hours.

maybe a little two much product?

I here a lot of this? I was always told it was designed for Europe and the particular climate they have?

this is what I thought, I even tried a lot less product and same result. Super grabby.

Not after using the Essence. It states that there is no need.

Figured I would try CQUK out and I like the Americoat a lot more! Guess I will look into another type.

I use and like CQUK, but it definitely has a steeper learning curve then other coatings.

If you like Americoat I would just stick to using it. It's a quality coating. Once you find something you like, I find that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

CQUK is very prone to smearing. The typical issues are using too much product, wiping off at the wrong time, or not working the product in enough.

Apply a thin layer of coating in a cross hatch pattern. After you have finished applying to the panel, go back and level it again using the applicator but without applying any additional product. There should be very little visible residue left at this point (if any). Wipe the surface with a large suede towel, then follow with a high quality towel like a CarPro Boa. There should be very very faint smearing visible under LED lighting. This should disappear as the coating sets (heat helps). You may also need to make an additional pass with a Boa after applying to the entire car.

For me, the coating was quite finicky and resulted in a lot of wasted time babysitting the panels. 22ple coatings are a breeze to apply. My personal favorite "best bang for your buck" is 22ple VX3.

For Finest (for example) you have to use Eraser even after Essence.

I always use Eraser after polishing and i love CQUK.

Sounds like you didn't give it enough time to cure since you had trouble taking it off as it was smearing. It should come off a lot easier and only have issues on the "dried" portion.

This is not true if you're using essence as intended and working until the product is gone. Don't want to hijack the thread, so no response needed, just want to clarify for anyone else reading. Essence is made to be used with CQuartz coatings and is very effective when used properly.

^ Thanks for the input. I seemed to get better results after using Eraser, even after Essence. I agree with you that it depends on how much product is used as well.

Not that anyone would apply it by hand, but from CarPro:

2 - Do I have to use Eraser between Essence and CQuartz?

If your using Essence by machine and you wait until the vehicle is finished then you can apply Reload or CQuartz after you finish the vehicle starting in the same direction you polished. If you want to be ultra safe you can still Eraser but in our testings to date we have not seen any failure when we skipped Eraser.

If your using Essence by hand then we recommend you use Eraser before coating.

It sounds like you are using too much of the coating or possibly leveling with a towel that is too plush. After tons of CQuartz UK applications, I have found that the Meguiar`s Ultimate wipes are perfect for leveling it followed by final wipe with a CarPro Boa.

If its cool with no humidity it will go on and off fairly easily. If its cool and humid it has trouble, in my experience.

I have only applied it in 90+ degree days with 90%+ humidity. Once you get it figured out it is manageable. But it was really designed for cooler humid climates like 'UK' to have a coating that flashed faster.

It would be a dream to work with in cooler weather.

It's discouraging because I don't like not being able to apply this.

It's not the most user friendly coating out there. Very dependent on ambient conditions and application process.
